I find it hard to believe an 8 year old Omega with the thirstiest engine will fetch over £5k in this climate.

If the car is the genuine mileage (which does look odd on the 2nd 0) then I would probably go look at it, full service history is probably not much much more than an oil an filter change every year.  I would gues even though serviced by a dealer the brake fluid hasnt been changed as per schedule.

But if it is a genuine 9k mileage then I dought anything at all will ever have been replace, this may well include the exhaust, and at 9k all 5 tyres should still be the originals.  Be interesting if the cam belt was actually changed at 4 yesrs, and id genuine miles and dealer serviced it should have had it's 2nd cam belt kit on by now.

[edit]JUST CHECKED SERVICE HISTORY, NEXT SERVICE WOULD BE DUE THE TIMING KIT.  oops[/edit]

But you have to consider this.

if it was your car, and it was one owner from new and used once a year to go on the anual holiday, then how much would you put it in the paper for?

I have also looked at that car advert carefully and agree..it doesn,t look right...speedo numbers are not correctly positioned and seat wear seems inconsistent.
Expect lots of bits are due a change just from little or no use.
If it had 60-70k mileage it would be a better bet me think..you don,t buy a car like that a not use it more than 1k a year.

The numbers might very well line up better once it's rolled over to 10 000 miles.
As for not using a 'car like that'  and rarely use it, it depends how much you're worth & how much you need to travel. SWMBO used her car for 3000 miles a year .... it'll be less than that now. Everybody has different needs & uses of a car.  :y

Fair comment AndyB,but it would be costing you more in road tax over the 9 years than you had spent in fuel...I expect a mileag of 3-5k a year in a small car is not unrealistic as we have an 11 year old Ka for my daughter and that has 46k so similar equation..agree its requirements, just would prefer it to have been properly run in.

Depends on your personal circumstances.

When I bought my 1st house I had to pay a minimal ground rent twice a year, the guy who built the houses was adopted by a wealthy couple and as his "Mum" had survived his "Dad" he bought a new rolls royce, it did one trip a year just to take his Mum on a day trip to scarbourgh, the rest of the time he used a 3 year old Rover 820, and yes, he was a millionaire.

for the same reasons i'm also not convinced, that 10,000 "0" is way out of line, and the driver's seat suggests the owner probably slept in it most evenings

swmbo's getting a 9 year old ford puma tonight with 32,000 miles on it, and that looks less lived in

Which is daft!

My dad got an '05 Signum 3.0CDTi when it was just under 4 years old for £5,500. It had about 40k on the clock, was absolutely immaculate, and has every toy.

It's a much safer buy, in my opinion, than an 8 year old car with 9,000 miles.

They defiantely are, as are most vehicles though but you'd be stupid to do it these days.
