Vehicle to be wary of...
« on: 09 June 2010, 17:45:27 »

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2001-VAUXHALL-OMEGA-GLS-V6-SILVER-CAT-B-LPG-/200481347940?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Automobiles_UK&hash=item2ead9e9964

I very much doubt anyone on here has considered purchasing this vehicle, but there are some interesting things to note;

Two are asides, it's done over 400k miles and apparently the 2.2 was a V6  ;D

The thing that concered me was the Category B part. A Category B vehicle is only to be sold to registered breakers for parts, and not for resale or road use again. This is not mentioned in the advert, if someone who didn't know much about cars bought it, decided to fix it and get it all sorted...it'd still never be allowed back onto the roads.
If it were Cat C or D then that's a different story. Cat A is only fit for disposal/scrapping-all parts are U/S. Cat B-Only for parts, not for resale, Cat C- At garage costs the repair of the vehice would cost more than the vehicle's pre accident value. Cat D- We haven't bothered to fix it, but it's possible to be done cheaply  :D

So if anyone had been interested, this vehicle can never be used on a public road and should only be sold to registered breakers.

It is entirely possible the seller isn't aware of this, but I wanted to make sure no OOF member bought it thinking it could be put back on the road.

I have just asked him this

Hello, I am not a breaker but could I buy this cat-B car, repair it and put it back on the road ?

If he replies, I wonder what the answer will be  :-/ :y

By the looks of the rather wonky pics,  this vehicle has suffered major underside damage, looks like the whole chassis has twisted. Cat B? Oh I think so!

the phrase-

"This is my mates car who doesnt have acces to eBay so im listing the vehicle for him.."

rings alarm bells for me anyway  :o

The reply

'from my knowledge yes.. the vehicle would need to be VIC tested upon repair'  :o

lol if someone repaired it , booked a vic check and took it to the vic test centre, they would be very very disappointed when the vehicle was not returned to them as it was going to be crushed!!
seen it done at the centres before!! :y

Wonder if it has got sleeping policeman damage and has udderside dameage after a chase.

Many thanks for all the emails i have spoken to my mate and have confirmed this vehicle is a CAT D not a CAT B as first advertised.. Sorry for any trouble.

I didnt email him but did report it to ebay., maybe the guy is genuine, but it is a case of buyer beware, and I think he ought to supply better phot's of the front if he hopes to sell it.

Its quite funny actually, before i bought my omega last week i was watching a vectra on ebay that was very cheap, i always HPI cars before i buy them and right up untill the point the seller was going to deliver the car to me upon payment i decided to HPI it, needless to say it came back as a CAT D, i informed the seller and got no reply, the auction was still running and eventually it sold WITHOUT HIM ADDING THE INFO TO THE DESCRIPTION!! So the new owner wont have a clue. i reported this to ebay while the auction was active and they didnt seem to be bothered!
