Hit By Stolen Car Being Chased..
« on: 12 June 2010, 00:16:38 »

Hi All...

Got a call from my mate today - he covers the Derby area..

Whilst driving through a 50mph road works he was hit by a stolen car being chased by the police at around 90mph

He's ok apart from compulsory whip-lash  ;) (said it's painful to lift anything heavier than a pint) car is prob a write off and the crack-head driver of the stolen corsa was caught...

Anyone been in a similar situation & how did it pan out with insurance ect?

- His car:- Mondeo 3 estate TDDi closed up all door shuts (inc a post) rear quarter & tailgate touching rear wheels !
Corsa - mashed, driver Unscathed (unfortunately)

motor insurance bureau (M.I.B) will deal with it i have just had my pay out yesterday after i was hit by a fifteen year old kid same thought went throw my mind what happens now how do i claim it was the police officer that was dealing with the accident told me that every time you pay for insurance some money out of the premiums go in to a kitty to protect legal drivers as soon as i told my insurance company they sorted it all out had to asked if i could use my own solicitor they said yes as the one they rccomended was useless. it does take longer  for the settlement to go throw his solicitor/insurance company will know what to do and he wont have a penny to pay as the solicitors will claim there fees from m.i.b it could even  be down to the police to pay out if it was deemed to dangerous to continue the high speed pursuit either way he is covered  :y
the only down part is he might have to claim off his own insurance for the car and lose his no claims bonus and the excess  which is a bit of a pain until its all sorted he should get reinbursed for the extra increase in price and his excess that he lost

if fully com dont worry he cover'd for all events, bar for god. 1988 cover stolen cars act, or is it 1990 one of the two, if therd party take longer up to 6months, and if police involved it is quiker they inform dvla, and dvla contact your insurance, an investigator will come out to see were it was at time and all involved, takes up to 2 weeks then you get your letter, after that its just the wait. i had same 5years back arm'd robbery hit me into a wall, all worked out in end and still got all my no clam's as police made first call.

They paided out for me about 12 years ago because i was hit by a driver who had no insurance, tax or mot and was also banned from driving, It takes a little longer to sort out and your mate might have to fight a little harder for the best offer but he will be paid out for both him and the car :y But all is not lost he can still lift that pint, all is good ;D ;D

... pretty much what i figured, hes fully comp so all should be well - He's main concern was getting a fair payout on his loss, the car was a low miles minter giha X
He uses the car for work & now has a Micra courtesy car!

The other half got rear ended in our Volo a few years ago & was contacted by Drive Assist.. they gave us a Brand new V70 D5 to use whilst it was being sorted & you could underwrite the cost of the hire (if it turned out to be your fault) for £10... think we ended up keeping that for 2 months ! -
I'll keep you posted on what happens...
