Tech 2 Present / Not Present and 124 code ?
« on: 12 June 2010, 09:29:37 »

I  can borrow a Tech 2 from time to time, and have used it to help resolve various problems on my 2.2 diesel. I recently decided to delve into the " body diagnostics" as my alarm triggers itermittently.  As expected it showed up power sounder problems, but also came up with the following;

124 pane breakage sensor - present
18  sunroof/ window comfort close signal voltage low - present

as well as  the expected

121 alarm siren  no response - not present
122 alarm siren self test failure - present

I think I get the genereal idea of what is required for cure the 121/2 codes.

The 124 code is old, and related to a busted rear etate screen heater (It has not re coccured since clearnce of the codes)

But what is this 124 code all about?  There is no sunroof and all windows work fine, Drivers door window is perhaps a little aged though. I have reset all windows following  battery replacement.

Also, I would very much appreciate  understanding the significance of the present/not present statement. Can anyone help me please?

Thanks for your time folks!

Well sounds like you're on the right track. Not Present codes relate to problems the ECU has seen in  the past but which it is not seeing at the time the codes are read. They can be used to identify historical or intermittent faults.

Sometimes these codes clear themselves after a while. Others remain permanently until the codes are cleared.

I haven't seen the sunroof code before but I would imagine the alarm has an input from a sunroof to indicate if it has been left open. Gut feeling is perhaps your alarm ECU is coded for a car with a sunroof when none is fitted. From memory the tech2 lists the configuration as you enter the diagnostics for the alarm ECU. Does it indicate a sunroof present?

The siren codes probably relate to the stages of decomposition of the power sounder. I.E. it's currently failing a self test but in the past it has been completely dead. I would remove it ASAP and optionally replace batteries, leave it out or get a new siren unit.

Thanks Kevin
Your explanation of present/ not present makes sense ( even to me )
I can't remember seeing the configuration, but I may have been over eager to get to the codes. I should have the opportunity to see if the Tech 2 lists the configuration early next week and will let you know progress.

Re the power sounder, I think you are right again. The darned thing was replaced  about 4 years ago.. well due again I guess, and hence the old 121 code.

Do you think that " comfort close" is the electrics that stop  fingers being trapped in electric windows/ sunroof?

(This could be interesting .....  Forget all this techy stuff, Tesco's Value Carrots have just  become the "must have" diagnostic tool for me! )

Thanks again

A number of years ago I emailed Vauxhall to enquire why the sunroof had a speed signal input (blue/red?). Their reply was along the lines of that it should close 'above a certain' speed to prevent buffeting inside the car, they couldn't give a precise speed (and it stays open at silly mph  ::))
I wonder if that's 'comfort cose'  :-/  :-/  :-/  :-/
