Breakdown and Recovery

Been thinking about joining one of the services.

Think I would go for the relay type though so I know I can allways get the car home ok.

Any thoughts or recommendations, not even looked the prices up as a mate has just mentioned something about a deal he got for AA Relay.

Would need to be me thats covered rather than a car registration though as I have 2 cars.

I'm with the AA, very happy with the price and it covers me and not the reg, good job really with having 4 cars on the go :D

AA Skruntie, been with em ages and pay £15 a month for the full works, including their "Parts and Labour" policy

Parts and Labour covered the cost of the headgasket when it went on our old 2.0 CD

I'm with the RAC as it covers me and the wife and they take you and the car in one go all the way home. When I was with the AA they did a thing called relay which moved you and the car to there next area and then relay to the next. took me 4 hours to get from Newbury to Portsmouth but I don't know if they still do it that way :y

Last time I got relayed by the AA mate was about 4 yrs ago in our old Rover and they just loaded it up and asked us where we wanted to go, took us straight to Whitby none stop

It's all to do with the time they have spent on the road. When the engine on my diesel let go last year on the M25 i was lucky to get a driver who had just come on shift and was able to take me all the way home.

Had AA relay years ago, used it twice in one year on the same car.

1st was a pucture and I didnt have a spare in the car, they tried to get out of sorting the job by saying I would have to have a new tyre fitted roadside, then the they found out the car was fitted with 275 and 235 x 15 tyres and addmitted they couldnt get that sorted, so they took he home aon a transit type low loader.

Next one I had been having issues with the fanbelt flying off on the way to skegness, came off twice so we diverted to cleethorpes on route, had a fantastic day out and decided it was safer to come home via the M180 at a constant speed.  this time the belt came off and dissapeared, as they did not have an 8'4" fan belt I got and lift home and the car followed behind us.

RAC, used the AA before had a few issue's. RAC are the best in my personal opinion  :y

Was with A for 42 years .. now with Green Flag ... service is better and it saves me over £60 a year ... both SWTSMBO and I covered for any vehicle we are in.

i used to  be a recovery driver and  IMHO i would go for the aa and go for the best package you can afford . i have the top package this covers me for home start realay and if they cant fix the car i can get a free loan car for three days or they will put us up in a hotel .

this is because they use local garages to do all their work . they dont have any of their  own techs or drivers . where as the AA / RAC will only use local garages as a last resort . ( ps no offence to any one that works for a green flag garage )

just to point out dont take to long  thinking as if you break down on the motorway and have no means of getting recoverd ie friend or breakdown cover . the wombles sorry traffic officers will call a autherized garage to recover you to a place of safety ie off motorway . for a minmum fee of £150 ad if you cant pay the can take your car and keep it in storage for around £8 to £10 a day  till you can pay
