Well done Del.
It's not the easiest of times to be selling for a living. I had those two Merc E Class's for ages, but sold them one day after the other and made a good amount on each.
There's always the trade off between amount of profit and turnover.
Small vehicles do invariably sell quicker, but with limited amount of profit, £500 to £600 on each vehicle if you're lucky. If you buy a vehicle for £2000, there's only so much you can make on it.
If you buy a £15k plus vehicle you have much more scope but it takes longer to sell.
I'd say quite a few people have a few thousand either spare of could get hold of to buy a car, but when it comes to £15,000 people have to think a bit more. If you earn £30k p/a then spending half your wage on a vehicle is a big decision.

But, well done Del...I'll happily borrow some of your luck  :D
Exactly  :y I do try to keep values below £15,000 purley because things start hanging around for a lot longer than I like  :y

I'm trying to find a happy medium Del...not sure I've found it yet. I'm only selling cars for one reason, my parents got divorced so therefore our house was put up for sale. I said to my mother, take out a additional mortgage and give the money to me. If I can make enough money we get to keep the house, if I fail we lose the house. I've tried fairly expensive vehicles, and think I may need to try smaller cars. Just over £3k is the most I've made on one vehicle, but we need to make near £63,000 and I'm really not sure how we're going to do that. If I made £3700 on one vehicle I'd be very happy indeed.

Great news on the Mercs going Josh, about time they were shifted.

If you need a delivery driver from London, you know who to PM  :y
You could come in handy to me too if I sell a car, I'll get it to you and you deliver it for some cash obviously  :y

With my shift structure that can work out well as i can do mid-week deliveries  :y

I'd do it for nowt, especially if I am delivering XJR's  8-)

I might re-set the fuel consumption though before it reaches one of your customers  ::)  ;D

You'd have to take some cash mate whatever car you were delivering  :y A 57 plate 535d M Sport should be next  :y

See i'd love to take one of those for a spin  8-)

Del does have a habbit of getting them very cheap  :y

As soon *hopefully* i will be London based, Del won't be far away by Train, so if he spots a good buy near him i could get it up to you? Not sure how much a professional delivery company would charge compared to fuel / train costs for me  :-/

It's hard to find the right market, but there's a market for every cost. You have to try everywhere, auctions, ring dealers for cheap cars that they've taken in, in P/X, try all the websites not just the major ones like Auto Trader etc, try Pistonheads, gumtree, adtrader, even the fridayads  :y

Never ever be willing to take less than you paid either, even if you have to take what you paid never drop below what you paid  :y

Oh and one more thing do not just stick to cars, little vans are the best seller hence why I always have an Astra Van for sale because it's guaranteed your going to make a good profit if you get them cheap enough. I should be getting a Sportive SE next week too, seriously there is a real call for Astra Vans, they are always popular. Transits are good as a Renault trafics/Vivaros/Primastars too. If you need help with anything Josh do let me know  :y

Got the XJR delivered at 9 this morning by a friend, made 2 phone calls someone is coming to collect tomorrow for £3700 profit, deposit already paid too, not bad for 7 hours. They haven't even seen pictures yet as I still haven't got my camera back :D Chuffed to say the least.

Quickest was a Peugeot 205 GTi, bought it at 11:00 am, sold it at half 1 the same day :y

[Peachy Mode] This sounds like a forsale bragging thread [/Peachy Mode]

Damn! I wanted a test drive  :D

Thats one healthy profit  :o - Do get bigger returns on the higher value cars it seems, sod all in Omegas now. I know Josh did well with the Rangie he had as well, that was similar purchase price

Now your're taking the piss and you wonder why Di has issues with you.  and no this is'nt a sales thread at all, it's a sold thread.   ;D ;D ::) :y

It is hard work at times, I was involved in the motor trade in the 90's and sales for little hatch backs rocketed, buy cheap and sell cheap but we allways ran the vechicles and checked for faults, did a service and a valet and most was done by word of mouth.

Quickest sale we did was a suzuki jeep bought at at Bawtry auctions on a thursday night, sold to a dealer at 9am the next for double what it cost to buy, and he then bragged he had ripped us off and made £600 by the afternoon.  ::)

We used to do a lot with the yank cars, but bought and sold allsorts, gokarts, boarts, petrol powered kids bikes and scooters plus motorbikes.

Nicest 2 I remember was a race tuned Teans am 400 that we painted from bare metal in bright yellow and a Kawaki 750 turbo  :P

Bet you have quite an interesting list of sales over the years Del based on what you had had for sale recently.

Sadly none of the stuff that was sold, just a couple i ran personally.

The trans am was stunning, bought in bits as a non runner, engine was in bits so we rebuilt it with a high lift cam, roller rocjkers, hi comp pistins DP four barrel, black jack headers etc etc.

had a 4 speed muncie manual box (cant remember the proper name for it)  rear wings were rotton under the rear window, was stunning when done, would have won any show with the paintwork.

So bloody quick as well, had an LSD, full throttle on setting off it ripped the pins clean off the half shaft tubes on the diff and twisted the propshaft.

Also when trying to get grip it used to spin the wheels inside the tyres.   ::)

On a slightly different note, the quickest car I bought was when I drove into a place to put fuel into a Volvo 244 and drove out in a lovely Granada 2.8 Ghia an hour later. ;D ;D ;D

Needless to say I got a bollocking when I got home :( :(

The Trans am and my ponitac parisiene are by far the fasrest cars I have ever driven.  Pontiac P had issues with wheelspin when booting it in any gear, the transam allthough it could spin the wheels all day actually managed to gain traction. ::)

Bought a 91 H reg Ford Escort in 1996 I think it was, the crap I got for that was the door being booted after a row over the mrs. having to drive it and being taken out of the M reg Granada we had at that time too  >:(
