New firmware out for the Omegas?
« on: 20 June 2010, 20:14:34 »

You'll have to forgive me as my suspicious meter is currently off the scale..... ;)

My local stealership has just dropped me an email about an update:-

Quote
Vauxhall integrates the very latest technology into the design and production of every vehicle it builds.  The integration of this technology necessitates the requirement for very sophisticated software as part of the vehicles operating system to improve driving comforts and efficiencies.

As with any computer software, development is continuous and regular updates are made available via our Technical Information System (TIS) for Aftersales available through the Dealer Network.

It is possible, especially if you have not visited a Vauxhall dealership recently, that your vehicle may not be running with the latest software. Your current software is fully fit for purpose, though may not be optimising your vehicles true potential in relation to performance and economy.

To remedy this situation we are running, at NO COST to you as the owner of a Vauxhall, an Enhancement Programme to ensure your vehicle has the very latest software installed.

So that we can arrange a convenient appointment to check and update your Vauxhall as required, please call our Service Department on .

Whilst the car is in our workshop we will carry out a visual health and safety check – also free of charge, giving you peace of mind knowing your vehicle is safe on the road.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Now in my mind this smacks as an excuse to smack a hammer about and find something to fix. I would be surprised if there was a firmware update (as I would assume there would be a thread on here) but I thought I would check  :y

Very nice dealer you have there  :o

There are firmware upgrades for climate systems and auto gearboxs, both make significant improvments, gearbox update is, quite simply amazing as its only a firmware update it makes a smooth box, just silky smooth.

If its free, i'd take them up on gearbox update if you have an auto  :y

That seems very odd, on a vehicle so long out of production!!

Why would Vauxhall go to the cost, during very difficult times, to give us free software?? ::) ::) ::)

I have received nothing from my dealer, but I would think this is either a) a mistake or b) an excuse as you say of getting to your car and creating work!! ::) ::)

Me thinks after the free upgrade (which costs them nothing) several things would happen:

Sir it appears your tyres are border line legal!

Would Sir like a discounted Air-Con Re-gass?

Sir, your ECU cannot be updated, want a new one at £xxxx?

Take the free upgrade but tell them not to do any chargeable work without your say so.

I think they are ahead of the crowd personally, I reckon most don't even know an update is possible, much less offer it for free.

However, one needs to use ones loaf and realise they are looking for work. Would be interesting to see if they spot any known to be failed bushes or other faults.

If there,s a fault, I'd want to know. Do it IMO. Then take the car home and fix any faults yourself. ;D

Well I could test them, it needs a new compressor and front reduction pipe. Also the front right wishbone is just starting to have a bit of play. Both are on the cards to be sorted soon.

I knew about the autobox update (but mine's a manual). When I have working aircon I'll see if it can be updated.

Sounds like a sales pitch, nothing wrong with that, take advantage of the upgrade any other problem identified you do not have to have the work done by them......... :)

I guess its partially aimed at newer cars. Firmwares, afaik, haven't been updated for any Omega systems for around 5yrs?
