around town MPG
« on: 22 June 2010, 20:41:03 »

i drive a 4cly 2.2gls 2002 (51 plate) 5 speed

love the room and comfort it offers but the mpg is in the mid 20s around town i was getting low 30s out of a old 2lt mondeo . i know the omega is a solid heavy car and i have a heavy foot of the lights .
so i am thinking off getting a 2.6/3.2 sal/est in auto as the 2.2 is gutless to be honest the gear changing is driving me mad so auto is needed
what i need to know is what mpg is common from the v6s .
or are 2.2 autos a nicer 4cly to drive than the mans

thanks for any input  :y

I get 27mpg to and from work, which is a 18 mile round trip town driving

On a run i get 36mpg if I keep it around 65-70mph

Our old 2.0CD auto wasnt much better to be honest

For the extra power the small mpg loss is worth it

Based solely on the car display and with no mathematics my 3.2 Estate does around 18mpg around town and on a mixed road run it does about 23mpg.
Best I've ever achieved was 31mpg and that was going to Gatwick which for me is constant motorway and even then I confess to zeroing the computor as I entered the motorway. My journey to work is 15 miles, 6 of which are by-pass and the remainder are good 'A' roads and regardless of how gentle I am with the accelerator I still only manage an average of 23mpg. It does get a move on when prodded though.   ;D ;D ;) :y

A 2.2 auto will give you less mpg than your current manual. I get around 20 around town and 30 on the motorway. The v6s are a little bit less but not by much. There is a link somewhere on the site which shows the mpg for each engine size

I drive a 2.2 auto and would say that the V6 is by far the beter option if you want the power. Not much difference in MPG problem with the 2.2 is that its a big car to get moving resulting in shite not that good returns around town.

However much easier to work on a four pot in the engine bay  :y :y
