What to replace the Omega with??
« on: 21 June 2010, 01:22:07 »

Hi all, I've had my 3.0 MV6 for 8 years now and it has served me well. But I'm thinking of getting rid of it, but struggling to think of a good replacement. Has anybody had experience of the 2.0 Turbo or 2.8 VXR Vectra? Wouldn't mind a 2.0 turbo Insignia but they're still a bit pricey. Thought about an E-class Merc or a 5 series BMW but they're mostly diesels and the one's in my price range (8K) are usually getting on a bit.
If the Vectra was RWD it would be a no-brainer!

Cheers, Paul

its problem for many of us, what other big RWD saloons are there?

Other options are VW Phaeton, Audi A8, Jag XJ.... i do rather liken A8 diesel, interiors are extremely well made

SAAB 93 2.8 Turbo, can get them now for stupid money they handle a hell of a better than the Vectra due to passive rear wheel steering :y Or I'd reccomend a 5 series BM if a SAAB doesn't tickle your fancy.

Likwise - I love the old LS400. It aint exacly pretty but it has presence and is a hell of a car. Difficult to beat if your after a  big luxury barge with plenty of grunt. If not the LS I would want an E38 7 series, I think they are gorgeus.

Considered it, but at similar to omega prices your looking at the older and apparently very unreliable models, and your in with vag group diagnostics and dealers, a very scary place to be.

Would probably LPG well though. :-/

But then the same is true of the phaeton, which I would strongly consider.  :D
