F1 test day
« on: 23 June 2007, 11:17:41 »

Went to the local test day here at Silverstone of Thurs.  Here are a few piccies, most crappy, as I only took point and shoot. Hopefully, one of my mates will provide better ones soon.

The BMW in particular was noticibly louder, whereas last year all cars except Redbull all sounded the same....

Alonso parked his car in a gravel trap, took them ages to fix it.

The camera simply wasn't suitable - point and shoot Canon Ixus 700. Although one of the best 'snappa' type cameras I have used, you need a far better camera for this kind of thing.

Saying that, any camera is going to struggle with a car doing 160mph side on....   ....thats why you tend to take pictures of them approaching or going away from you, but you need a telephoto lens, not a 100mm (ish) equivilent :(

I had a 'better' camera before, but never used it, as it was too big to lug around, I always left at home, or in the car/hotel when on hols....   ....thats why I bought the Ixus; its a decent camera for general purpose holiday snaps, and fits in her handbag without her moaning too much.  I am really impressed with the Ixus, though as can be seen above, it does have its limitations (mostly, it should be said, due to not taking other lenses).

Quality of picture is fine. I used to have a couple of SLR and swore i would never go digital until, i bought a Fuji a good few years ago was instantly convinced that digital was for me. Now i have 2 Fuji"s and a small Nikon which i carry with me in work.

I would like to get more time for photography and more knowledge but since ive had digital i take the laptop on holidays to download every day the photos ive taken and it save me on getting 12 rolls of film processed when i come home. Worth every penny, my next step will be a digital SLR. So have to put up with the 10x zoom on the Fuji for now..

Still the excitement of the F1 test day and some photos makes for a great day.. :y

My daughter reckoned she was going to faint through lack of food..I told her dont faint in the kitchen you will be in the way and the floor is tiled it will hurt when you land, go upstairs and do it on a nice plush carpet... ;D ;D.. I give in and made some noodles, curry flavour..I sometime suprise myself with my talents.. ;D ;D.

Good pics considering how difficult it is to shoot these cars at speed :y

Makes me feel jealous as I used to go to the F1 GP every year, but haven't been for last few years :'(

These were at Luffield, so cars are quite slow there, so easier.  He had a 400mm lens which helped...
