O,k ive taken the plunge & getting the screen done tomorrow morning, they do use the old plastic trim but can supply for an extra fee, anyhow i`ll report back as to how good the £90 deal is. :y i`ll drop you a line MickAP if its all hunky dory ;) :y

Are you going through insurance?

My excess was £75 but they included new trims (which came in a huge box!)
not going through the insurance, as kindadraws says the insurance company do make notes & as ive used the free recovery twice i figure they might think im taking the mick. ;)

i reckon using the bloke i have used for years and getting a screen from my local Vauxhall Specialists (Roadrunners aka Happy Steves  :D) it would cost me 80 ish sovs for a second hand screen pulled out a breaker and fitted to a car.
thats 2 screens out and one in. I reckon a second hand probably genuine screen would be about 20ish sovs and 60ish to bung in.

so 90 sovs for a new one fitted is a good deal imo  :P

Happy?  Roadrunners?

Doesnt sound like the roadrunners I know  ;D ;D ;D

once you get to know him he's great infact i reccommend Steve to loads of people,it helps if you mention Karl (moi :P) sent you. i have had tons of stuff out of there for the old Vauxhalls and had cars tech 2'd and always been pleased.
theres a good team there and the advice i have gleaned is great to and i find they are very helpfull with me.

mind you i quite like being abused when i go in,its part of the Happy Steve experiance  ;D

Just watch out the fitter doesn't take off the paint underneath the old screen. Autoglass had changed the screen on a Honda I had previously and eventually the screen surround rotted away enough for Honda to describe it as "rotten as a pear", much to my horror.

A related question - assuming you can be withuot your car for a while, if you are having the screen relpaced through insurance, could you remove the old one yourself so you have time to treat rust, touch up paint etc, then have autoglass or whoever in to fit the new screen?

if its bonded in and a ammature trys taking it out without the correct gear you coukd come unstuck, the pro's make it look easy after the trims been removed and then the cheese wires poked through and you start sawing at the sealant.

its not impossible but i don't think the insurance approved fitters would be happy waiting if they removed the screen and you started fannying around in the way

Right thats it all done, took all of about 20 mins, with regards to the rust bits under the glass, i had a couple but he cleaned them up a bit & coated over it with some black paint stuff, the screen is pilkington glass so should be o,k, time will tell i suppose. :y

It is easy....removal i not hard with the correct tools.

Fitting is harder and something that Auto Windscreens are yet to master
