yep the same one :'(

How does this sound. Buy some new genuine gaskets and bring the car to me, i'll fit them and if it cures the leak then you can pay me, if it doesn't cure the leak there will be no charge ;)

that sounds fair!  :y  :y  :y

Can someone explain how changing the head will stop a cam cover leak?

Unfortunately I think you've fallen victim of a very poor mechanic. Suspect pattern seals or poor fitting tbh.

Get it away from your garage and take it to Pete. He knows his onions, and melons as well.  :y

I must say it does sound like you have fallen foul of a poor mechanic.

I have had 5 omegas over the past 7 years, and the only real issues I've had that have prevented me driving are:

MV6 - cranksensor - European Breakdown delivered car home.
TD Elite - ripped sump plug out at 80mph during some spirited driving ::). Mrs TB towed me home.
2.5 v6 Elite - something odd related to cyl 6 after a high speed run ::). Tunnie towed me home.

Everything else I have done to the car has been servicing and preventative maintenence.

Every Omega I've had, I would be more than happy to have, for example, driving to South of France (and is some cases did)

Just what I was wondering. There's no way on earth a head could warp enough to cause the cam covers to leak so you'll be wasting your time changing heads.

Sounds like some diagnosis is required. Find out where it is leaking and sort it. If it's cam covers again, it points to poor fitting or poor gaskets used. If it's somewhere else it points to poor diagnosis before carrying out the previous work.

So yes, poor mechanic is what it's pointing to IMHO. I'd take Pete up on his offer. :y

Chips/damage to mating surface is all I can think of, but would be immediately obvious with visual inspection  :-/

Ok. Favourite for water leaks is the heater bypass valve. Just behind the driver's side cylinder head.  :y

Sorry, have I misunderstood? I thought this was leaking oil from cam cover gaskets :o

I think someone has got a little mixed up.. :-?

If your Cam Cover Gaskets were leaking you would have an oil leak not a water leak.

If it is water you are leaking there are several places with the first point of call being the HBV :y

Possibly two problems? But as said, needs diagnosing correctly.

A look at his last 25 posts reveals seals and cam cover replaced and still leaking by the sound of it.

Also reveals a "qualified vauxhall fitter" doing the work apparently.......

there are 2 problems,
1)cam cover gasket leaking oil from the nearside bank of cylinders.Oil leaks enough to cause severe smoke from burning oil on manifold and excessive fumes in car .

2)losing water . water goes down in the header tank enough to set the warning light on . this happens every fortnight and needs approx 1 pint to bring it back up to the level. No obvious signs of where the water is leaking to or from .

3) slight misfire when starting after being stood all night but clears up in about 5/10 seconds of engine running (enough time to clear cylinders ),  this is why it  has been assumed its a head gasket / problem.
there isnt any sigh of water in the oil or visa versa

i hope ive explained a little better .
