I had a NIP from the Welsh boys in blue and didn't bother returning it - they never ever folllowed it up and I never heard from them again.

Sounds like you may be past that stage though if you have asked for the photo.

IIRCC a speedo isn't actually a legal requirement. But you must have a method of judging your speed ::) ::)

Feel for you... I must confess I tend to set the cruise at an indicated 80mph which is about 77 for exactly that reason

3 times in the past i've been caught speeding and recieved a NIP.
Two times I ignored it and did'nt hear any more about it.
The one time I did respond and told a porky pie I ended up getting into a lot of trouble.
Try and drag it out for as long as you can, after you've been caught speeding the police only have a certain amount of time to prosecute you.
When that time elapses, the speeding ticket becomes invalid and your off the hook.
Can't remember the exact length of time you have, think it might be 1 year.
Stretch it out and see who gets bored first, you or the police, and if you get past that magic marker then your laughing ;D ;D ;D

that really is harsh, i set my cruise at bang on 80, car feels just right at that speed. But millions of cars pass me, i hardly over-take anything, everyone does 90!

I think that's very poor advice indeed. :(

I would'nt call doing 40 in a 30 'speeding', which is more or less the speed I was going all 3 times.
I realise that technicaly I was speeding, but 40 is about the average that everybody does, including the jobsworth coppers that pull you over for it.
They act like you've been caught doing 100mph outside a school or something and make you feel like a common criminal.
If only the police prosecuted kiddie fiddlers and muggers as quickly and as efficiantly as they do the poor old motorist then this country would be a lot better off.
They don't have as much motivation to go after people like that though because they don't earn any money out of it >:( >:( >:(

As for the bad advice, I know 2 people that have kicked up a fuss and dragged out their tickets, as a result of which they have got off scott free!!
A work friend has a daughter who is a police officer with Thames Valley Police, and she said that its impossible to resolve every single speeding ticket as so many are issued and the police simply do not have the resources to fully investigate every ticket that somebody appeals or questions.
 ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Just because they are the police, that does not mean that whenever your dealing with them your attitude has to be 'yes sir, no sir, three bags full sir' :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

We do still live in a democracy and have a right to fight and defend ourselves against any accusations......well at least I think we do............hold on i'll have to check.........i'm pretty sure the traffic police have been trying to stamp things like free speech out.

It dos'nt end there - common sence has left the building... I'm sure there are millions of examples, but one thing is for sure, Nothing will ever be the same again AND were all being conditioned to accept it - I'm sure you all know what i'm talking about (or not talking about as it's now socially unacceptable to do so !)... Example. recently a friend of mine arrived at Bristol airport on a domestic flight, there was a delay in processing the baggage so he thought he would go outside for a smoke... the bag area is 30yds from the exit but there is a sliding door that openes to the outside world with a no entry sign on the outside, so he popped his head round the door and asked the security guy "If i come through this door i wont be able to get back will i ?" - no says the guard, Ok i'll stay here then... You cant sir your allready through the door... No im not - yes you are, ect - result - security called my mate gets the third degree and thretened with arrest after saying " its not as if i'm wearing a turban now is it !!! "

Example 2
The girfriend of a guy at work got mugged at a caspoint in london, she was told that the CCTV camera nearby didnt see anything, 3 weeks later she received a penalty for stopping on yellow lines - and yes the attached picture showed her car, her AND the mugger in clear view !
Summary... Parking penalty + £60 for Police
........ Convict mugger.... - £3000 for police - You decide !

Anyway back to speeding.... Despite what they claim police have targets to meet, thats why you see bike coppers sitting on a bridge with a camera near the end of the month - spend a few hours topping up on speeders and the report to the goverment looks better - then we get the funding for more coppers, bikes, merc's & beemers plus a whole load of cash to waste on a farce like tetra, gardian or a whole load of other crap that gets tendered out to private companies.

Thanks for your considered reply Fudgee but I would suggest that to speed because everyone else is doing it isn't reasonable at all.

Similarly to advise someone to ignore official correspondence because others have done so remains questionable in my view.

Your view of certain elements of the police force is obvious from your piece, and I find this regrettable, but traffic regulations are there for a reason.  If you choose to ignore them then that's a matter for you but to advise others to do so is misconceived, in my view.

I use this stretch of the M4 travelling to/from work each day.

The speed camera van is usually on the first over-bridge between Junctions 35 and 34 watching eastbound traffic, so you've been unlucky mate.
