Oil for 1.9CDTi
« on: 05 August 2010, 21:36:48 »

What's the recommended oil (Vx) for the CDTi 150bhp engine, as in Vectra/Signum/Zafira etc.

Handbook gives two types

I know you chaps will know what's best :y

TB has responded re VX oils - if you want an alternative:

MAGNATEC 5W-30 A3/B4

For Ultimate Protection Edge 0W-30 is recommended

Put your reg in on this site:

http://castrol.mobi/go.php?k=3.790

Others will be along with deal at Opi Oils I suspect

I use the Edge product in my Signum 1.9 cdti

I've got over 10 ltrs of Vx 10w-40 semi in the garage, is this ok?
I used this in TD estate at around 4-5k intervals, and plan oil changes at the same intervals in the 1.9

If you're going for short change intervals the semi synth will be fine. :y

sorry - talking complete rubbish in my previous post. I am using GM fully synthetic as it has only been serviced at VX main dealer. I did buy a litre of Edge when car was new to top up after it used a bit of oil on a journey. It has not used any oil in between services since but Edge 0-30 is the Castrol recommendation if you take that route.

If you have more money than sense then use edge, if you want a bloody good oil at a good price then use vx fully synth.  I would not use semi as its not the ideal grade

on vectra-c.com they recommend 10w40 semi for a 10k service interval or 5w30 synth for a 30k mile interval.

personally I don't think it's a good idea to leave oil (of any grade) in your engine for 30,000 miles but fortunately for me my oil leak ensures the oil is completely refreshed every 15k anyway  ;D
