You wouldn't need one in a Manual.... when did I say you did?  Oh, wait..... Astra has a 'Sport' button does it not?  Stiffens steering and livens up throttle response.... apparently.

where did the Astra come from ..............  :-? ;)

Hellsmere Port it says so on the sign (or it used to).

Personally I don't see the need to use the Sport Button  :-? I have obviously pressed it and other than the top part of the roof coming away then the poor passenger ending in the roadside ::) all it seemed to do was hold the revs longer.....

Shame the Fizzy hasnt got a sport button. :P :D ;D
I rarely use it either,I drive like an old granny these days, but iirc it makes the box kickdown at lower revs than it normally would. :-/

it does nothing for the outright "book figure" acceleration, because in doing this you'd be holding the trans in kickdown.

what it does do is hold onto gears for longer, is keened to down-select for overtaking and makes the shift firmer (quicker).

so in outright acceleration - no difference
and in the real world, yes it'llbe better

I use the sport mode when towing as it lets the engine rev out more in each gear

It should be no different in a straight line than having your foot planted and therefore kickdown activated.

on the twistys, does keep the revs up so aids take off after bends, and helps avoid unneccessary hunting.

No, it does not make a difference from a standing start acceleration.

It may make a difference on a rolling start acceleration, due to it probably being in a lower gear at the time.

Yes it makes a big difference, as when I kick down it holds the low gears longer, giving vastly increased revs, and boosting my progress up past 100mph when having to overtake a line of slow moving (below 45 mph) vehicles.  The manoeuvre, providing I have plenty of clear road in sight, then becomes much safer using the 'S' mode 8-) 8-) 8-)

Looks like an arguement best settled at the york meet if you are allowd on the strip.

2 cars   1 in SM other not

then do 2 directional runs, one each way.

then the car that was using SM tuen it off and the other turn it on and 2 more runs each.

Set the distance first.
