Rear bushes on MV6
« on: 16 August 2010, 12:03:23 »

Now I knew they were very tired, but whilst driving to Oxford on Friday, it almost felt as if something broke at the back.  Every corner felt like oversteer, yet any attempt to catch it just made the car unstable.

So, a quick text to the king of rear bushes, and chrisgixer pops over on Sunday to help change them.

Despite a 'now we have a big problem' type moment, I thought it was easier than I expected it to be - the old ones pulled out pretty well imho, and the new ones went in nicely.

A quick little drive around the block showed that the problem was cured.  Which obviously meant curry time :D

Thanks to chrisgixer for giving up his Sunday afternoon to assist, despite the fact it was obvious he was nursing a real bad hangover ;D ;D

Much appreciated :y

I have some to stick on too, back end is all over the place.  Job for this week I think, first though I have to build myself a puller.

Your welcome TB, it's a case of having an array of "weapons" and methods in the armoury for this little battle, the claw hammer/lever it out with anything you've got approach got us nowhere after, what, an hour?   :o

So time for the secret weapon, the baring puller, mines now seen better days so if anyone needs this job doing at newent mine may not last another extraction, for which I'll be happy to advice from a distance so to speak if we do more than one car as it's a long time laid down on your side without a pillow to stop your neck aching  ;D, and arms will be falling off after a side, would need air tools normally. And I'm sure there will be some hangover going on as well.  ;D

Anyway, the silver bullet drives on, thank god, I thought "we" had cross threaded the captive nut at one point, but it was just the bolt hitting the side meaning the subframe needed some leverage to line up.

We won't tell the neighbours about their garage door  :-X

in case it helps, i used a £15 job from halfords, it works differantly from the special tool described in the book of lies in as much as it clips on the bush edge and pushes through the centre to pull the bush out, meaning the centre bolt needs fitting loosely for it to push on.

book of lies shows the special tool iirc, if you whan to make the puller, may aswell make the correct one?

or bring it over here if you prefer?
