Am strongly thinking of buyig one with a goood history and only 120,000 miles up1  Any one got any info about these ol beemers

Should be an E34 maybe a very very early E39, E34's are quite strong old buses to be honest.

so far so good   any idea if they run a chain or belt for the timing   my miggy got really battered on friday the 13th would'nt ya know

I think it is old E34 series, if I rememeber correctly E39 started in 1996.
Hmm here general opinion was that 5 series was crap but 3 series with same engine was very goog. It definitely depends did the previous owner/s take proper care of the car

ive had 3/5/7 series Beemers, and loved them - E39 520 with a straight 6 in it was bullet proof and never faulted    - if its been looked after, shouldnt be a problem.

must have single vanos and chain.. newer models probably after 2000 have dual vanos unit..

let it checked by a bmw owner or a specialist if vanos faulty will have a lower performance and repairs are costly..

I have had two E39 BMW's. A 2.0 litre and I currently own a 525i touring. Both were/are superb and only ever needed regular maintenance.
I would highly recommend them

Don`t go for a 520 go for a 525 they are better on fuel economy plus you have to rev the 'dangle berries' off a 520 to get em to go espec when they get older....I`ve had 2 E34`s in the 520 guise both manual and auto 1st un the head gasket went and the 2nd the timing chain snapped and stuffed the engine....So if ihad the option again then i would certainly go for the 525 either in diesel or petrol and in low mileage if poss....

agreed....the 520 is a bit underpowered; 528 / 530 are better

E39 was introduced late 1995, in Germany and United Kingdom  1996 eleshwhere.

Cant beat the old E34 5 Series, its a good strong old bus that will go on forever as long as its been cared for. Build quality i found is excellent compared to the 3 series and more comfy.

Ive had 2 E34 520's 12v and 24v and still have a soft spot for them to be honest.

Also 95 model should be the facelift model with the wider grille's and side skirts.
