Scorpio / Omega Review
« on: 03 September 2010, 12:45:47 »

I assume most have seen this: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/omega.htm

Didn't know that some Omega's had 5 speed autos - it this true?

Is that why mine changes gear 4 times when accelerating to speed?

Before I went to Omega I had Scorpios from 1985 to 2002 - 4 of them in total (1 stolen) and were great cars. Did not bother with the later froggie model.

Now moved onto VW but still have the Omega.

I had a 2.9 Ultima Cosworth prior to any of my Migs, take away the ugliness and they weren't bad Cars, the over drive thing wasn't a bad idea, could never get the thing to do more than 21 MPG average no matter how I drove it. Think they would have been more popular if they offered a manual box version.

I would say that report is faily accurate TBH, think a Mig 3.0 Manual would wing it though, must admit them 24v Cosworths did make a lovely noise when booted, sort of miss mine in a way, it got stolen, they had strange electrical issues as well, sort of gave you the sense you was about to break down every time you drove it.

Would I have another one?, probably not, think I just stick to my light weight Sapphire Cossie for the Ford thing.

Loved the Scorpio had a few, there are pictures are on here somewhere, 2nd most comfy car I've ever owned. Only second to a Mercedes S Class, much comfier than any Omega I've been in or driven sadly, seats were much more supportive than Omega leather.

The 2.5 Omega keeps the 2.9 Scorpio honest, so you can only imagine how the 3l one eats it for breakfast.

The Ford does seem to suffer lots of silly electrical niggles...

Ive never been a blue oval fan... Remember the fiesta and escort days? you always new what it was just by sound, tappet rattle! I think thats just Ford's level, cheap cars that are ok when new but buckets after a few thousand miles

My opinion of the Scorpio,it was doomed the minute the police refused to use them....

Ive never drove one tbh but my mate was an avid Granada man and even he dismissed it

You can't be talking about the 2.9 Cosworth 207 BHP?

Thought it was 190bhp?

Either way, blows Omega 2.0 out of the water

Gearboxes are terrible, actual output is 210 in some places and 207 in others.

The old Cologne one - about 160 AFAIR but felt like about 140 - it did not feel like a powerful car

It was a old pushrod engine not a Cosworth one
