My 2.2CD sounds like a jet engine
« on: 02 September 2010, 23:58:43 »

No noise when stationary and revs appear normal. But when driving feels as if engine is gonna take off. Spanner light comes on now and again. will have to get it checked pronto :( :(.

Would suggest SAI, but you dont have it.

Get under the bonnet, have someone rev the car and see if the noise is there.  If not, then it's a transmission/gearbox issue.

Diff whine maybe, would tie in with the fact its there when driving and not stationary

Certainly seems something thats turning i.e Diff, prop, half shafts or road wheels

I would check out the diff mate although ive not heard of this problem much on a Miggy, but it is a mechanical component so it could be...
I had a 2.6 Carlton estate a few years back which had a diff whine, and it did sound like a jet plane when it got above 20 mph

Cheers for the offer mate but is awkward as I work shifts. Maybe catch up at a meet sometime. What do you use to read your codes if you don't mind me asking.

As mentioned could possibly be my wheels. replaced them a few months ago. Still need to find why the Spanner light comes on every now and again.

Cheers for the offer would like to take you up on that mate but I work shifts. What do you use to read your codes if you don't mind me asking.
