Bad idea.  You'll get brick-dust all over the mat.

Just ban her from driving it, unless she is picking you up from the pub, in which case, she can do what she wants.

Given what's already been said, I would imagine the deciding factor on engine size would be Insurance Premium tbh? :-/

Oddly enough its pretty much the same as MPV...wifes 41 and ive driven 15 years claim free so insurance isnt too bad.

Just wondering if that might be better. :-/

If you are going that old, Vectra's are Pigs.  Only when you get to the Facelift were they a 'decent' car.

It's a totally different machine to the Omega.  Some peoples needs warrant one more than the other.

If you are unsure, why not consider an Astra, Corsa, or even an Agila?  ::)

No folks...im on a tight budget due too being skint.

Running costs not a big deal as doing very little mileage...and even a 2.5 wouldnt be any worse than the MPV at 20mpg.

i"ll be looking at region of £500.... :-/

Oh dear, Migs might be cheap but you get what you pay for, I would not accept that for our 98 2.0l auto estate, fully sorted and mint for age.... :)

hello guys,

i agree with most of the stuff said.

definitely do not get a vectra!!!!!!!!

my advice (as was the advice given to me) was get the best spec model with as low a mileage as pos.

mine's a 2000 plate (w) was on for £1400 but i got him down to £1100 a year ago.

u shud pick them up cheap (not sure what youd get for £500) but the only reason they're so cheap is cos theyre so big and deemed to be expensiv to run.

youll be purchasing a cracking car if you get an omega ; )

the initial purchase price shouldnt be the only deciding factor.
you can spend a fair amount getting the car up to scratch especially if its coming up to one of the bigger services.

Agreed.  I paid similar money that the OP has to spend on my 99 (T) 3.0 Elite.

2 Auxiliary Belts (1 Genuine, 1 QH) £50
1 DISPack £100
6 NGK Plugs £30
1 Steering Idler £45
Exhaust Manifold Gasket Fitted £120

I need
1 Bottom Pulley £??
Paint for drivers door and odd touch-ups £30
WIM Geo SetUp £65

So, all in all, say the Pulley is going to be £70, the cost of getting the car to a 'great' standard for age will be £510.

Original purchase price £550

Total £1,060
