Tyres with most rim Protection
« on: 21 September 2010, 11:54:43 »

Morning All!

Anyone got any advice or personal knowledge of the above?

I'm not after tyre advice but just those brands with hefty rim protection.

Contis do (but are mega expensive)
Ditto Bridgestone
Some Pirellis but not all

Anyone know of others?
Any help much appreciated :y

For cheapo's have a look at the Sunny SN3800, I have a set on my CDX alloys (which aren't fitted anymore) and they grip well for cheapies. Half decent edge protection too. I think I payed £164 delivered from eGay for a set of 4!

Sorry if I'm missing the OP's point but is the idea for the tyres to protect your wheels?
It's not a good idea to be scuffing your sidewalls either you know... :) :)

No, but a tyre will take more to rip, where as the slightest rub on the curb and an alloy loses paint, and a tyre generally cost less than an alloy.

It's the unseen damage to the tyre you need to worry about when you scuff it...

Thanks for all the info folks :y :y

I'm on 235/35/19's - sorry -  should have made that clear in original post. :-[
Checking out some of the brands looks like they don't make 'em that size - I'll keep checking.

Anyone on 19s got a favourite tyre with decent rim protection? :-?

Mine are Goodyear Eagle F1 on 18" rims, and one of the reasons I chose them was good rim protection, hope this helps :y

its a thick rib of rubber moulded on to the side wall of the tyre that protects both the side wall and the wheel :y
