What's actually needed to fit HID lights, I want them on the van, but need to know what I need apart from the lights, and bulbs.

What's actually needed to fit HID lights, I want them on the van, but need to know what I need apart from the lights, and bulbs.

You'll get various interesting (?) and conflicting answers I'm afraid !!

From the construction and use regs, if they go on a new build car then an automatic levelling system and a cleaning system are mandatory. And all Omegas that have them "factory fitted" have those systems... I would suggest for very sensible reasons.

There are those who say that aftermarket fitting requires neither ... mainly I guess because it suits their purpose.

What is certain however, is that the light units and the bulbs you fit MUST be "E" marked to be legal.

I think that the levelling is VERY important as I hate being blinded by idiots at night.

I also know that the light from HID's deteriorates very quickly as the lens gets dirty, so if you don't keep them clean there is little point in fitting them.

Yeah, lights and bulbs are E marked, the levelling is what was worrying me, I know a bloke who has fitted them, they look lovely on his van really do, but I need to know how he got around that?

If we use the Omega as a base, I know you're using an Astra H van...but it'll give you some idea.
New headlights and ballast pack, headlight washers and pump, new interior light switch as you can't manually adjust Xenon's and then you'd need the level arms on the suspension and I suspect various other little bits. So I'd say you'd need all of that for the van.
Someone had attemtped to fit Xenon's (HIDS) to a vehicle that they tried to p/x to me. I refused the vehicle as it had no cleaning system and no levelling system. I actually thought it was dangerous and didn't want to have to try and rectify it.
I think the best and easiest way would be to find an Astra H with proper factory fitted Xenon's and just take all the bits you need from it.

I think Josh that's what I'm going to have to do, i can get a brand new set of lights these include angel eyes too for £160 delivered, plus a cheap place I can get Xenon bulbs, but, it's the little bits that'll be the pain in the arse  :-/

That links to the first Astra H I could find with proper Xenon's. I'm amazed by how many people say a car has them, when it doesn't. But you can see it certainly appear to have them, afaik all other Astra H's don't use projector style 'golf ball' bits just the regular looking bulbs etc.
I wonder if you could buy another Astra H from auction cheap enough, swap the bits over and still sell the other Astra for profit?

Mate of mine, will sell me his and fit them, so that's my HID trouble sorted
