hi guys,

you like me must watch top gear? you know they always do power slides... well can you do these one handed?

weird question i know but i find i always steer one handed (including palming it round roundabouts) and just wondered if (with say the aid of driving gloves) this is pos?

found a vid on the net of it being done he gets the back end out, turns into it and then balances that whilst power sliding and then lets the steering wheel go and it flips back to the forward

Simple answer;

With a car equipped with power steering, if you can control it with two hands, you can with one hand.


Regardless of power-slide, doughnut or parking at Asda.

Rubbish - can be done quite easily - but why use one hand only? - unless you've only got one

Personally speaking find drifiting one handed pretty simple.......Maybe I spend too much time in the car!!!!!!

If you have rear wheel drive and plenty of power you can easily do it with one hand, you can even do it with your knees with a bit of practice, not that i would recommend it.

or you're a disabled driver / motorsport driver with handcontrols 

There's a clip on the net, Japanese with no subtitles, and the driver is a disabled 'drift' driver with full controls set up enabling him to drift the car nicely.
One of the top professional drift drivers has a go, but does take a bit of a go before he gets the hang of it.

I fancy having a go myself

I'm pretty sure that if you had an accident tomorrow, then your insurance wouldn't cover you. You have after all just admitted to driving routinely without proper care and atention.

power slides on Top Gear are driven one-handed because the drivers are eejits.

I wish people would stop trying to be God-like.

Nobody drives in the manner they would drive if taking a test.

There is no law which says you have to have both hands on the wheel at all times.  FFS, give it a rest.

EDIT: I MOST OF THE TIME DRIVE WITH ONE HAND ON THE WHEEL!  OH NOEZ, MY INSURANCE IS INVALID! OMGOSH ROFFLESKATES FUNNYCAT!  :-/
