Any Mitsi Delica is good, the early ones had a 2.5TD lump, not fast but reliable and cheap to run (40mpg+) but slow (85mph tops.)
later mk 2 models were 2.8DTI, better power, dearer to run (30+going down to 20+ if driven hard on a hill) but 95mph +.
Large, old buses with great handling, brilliant seating and load carring, cheap on iunsurance, parts on the mk1 come from the pajero/shogun parts bin, mk2's come from the challenger and later shogun, so easy to find. Block off the EGR on both to make it run better, and boost pressure can be tweaked to improve easily.
Had two of them, would have a LWB mk2 in an instant tomorrow.
Avoid SWB mk2 4WD "road" varient like the plague, identifiable by the fact it is low on the ground with wheel covers not 16" alloys, and the AUTO is the best to have, overdrive is STD and is easily the best drive.
Manual is OK, but is only 5 gears, and for me, the gearing is wrong, the diff ratio is totally too high, pulls like a train, but does 85 at best, the auto will reach the ton, but still has grunt if you select low and keep OD off.
They are all "grey imports", so insurance is slightly dearer than say, a Disco, but its specc'd sooooo much better, usually tinted windows and even 10CD as standard, with aircon and captains chairs. Nearly always with towbar and twin electrics, and bull bars with extra lights on the front.
Highly Recommended for under 2K down to 1k for a higher mileage one. Remember the speedo will be in kms, so one with 100k on it is still low mileage!!
Excellant owners club, similar to OOF, and spares cheap.
Hope this helps you a bit.
Mike.
