Security not always a good thing!
« on: 08 October 2010, 10:01:18 »

Like a muppet i managed to lock both my keys in the boot as i only just bought it last week and the keys were on the same keyring. because the car was deadlocked and i used the boot release key i was in trouble, a locksmith tried to gain access but we soon discovered the lock catch cant be pulled up or the door handle due to the deadlocking system. Next morning i went to vauxhall to request a new code and key (£38). Not too bad but as i did not have my logbook i could not order a key, DVLA had not even received the new details yet. needed my car for the weekend so had no choice to get my weight curling bar and put the window through! luckily it was a good aim and only hit the glass. £65 excess later and i have a new window glass but im still feeling pretty stupid about the whole thing. Hard lesson learnt i think! ;D

You won't be the first to do it and you certainly won't be the last ;)

Many years ago I remember buying a small magnetic water proof box which you stick in a safe place on your car, it was big enough to hold a key. I wonder if they still make one.

The AA have a nice window-free trick to get the boot open on these, i presume it's a saloon?

I did the same thing last year! Keys (2) in the boot! Doh! Luckily for me I hadn't deadlocked it. I managed to lever out the rear window with two screwdrivers (without smashing it!), pop the lock and get the keys! Then somehow I managed to get the window back in with no damage whatsoever!
