Looking at a 1.6 HDi to replace the aging Traktor
Slightly less  load space (about the same as a Volvo V70 that got replaced by the Omega)
Are they any good?
Aside from much better MPG, they seem to be in the same league 2nd hand price-wise as the Omega was when I bought it back in 2003 - better value for money than a Volvo!
It's a 56 plate with 67K on clock, 2 owners in same household

its a big car for a 1.6 even in 110bhp trim,I have driven a few 2.0 hdi's and they are a nice drive,my dad runs a 2.2hdi exclusive auto and that has plenty of go(136bhp) but not great on fuel(circa 30-32 locally)

Thanks, it's not performance that I'm after but capacity & economy (I drive like the Grandfather that I am thanks to cruise control)

the 1.6 110bhp is just powerful enough and is brilliant on fuel. The Hydroactive3 (fluid suspension) has a 125000miles or 5 year warranty so everything should be ok there. like picasso's interior trim does not wear well but they are a fantastic load lugger. watch out for the split tailgate glass as they have a reputation for not opening due to dodgy catches

Well I've bought it!
So soon there'll be a 1996 GLS 2.5 TD auto with 160K on clock to dispose of. Has had new wishbone, rear subframe donuts, front disks, brake pipes front to rear, drop links, water pump, fuel lift pump, steering idler. Gets oil changed every 3k miles (I'm a disciple of The Boy)
Has SC804 head unit & 5 CD changer fitted now as well as cruise control & a genuine steel dog/luggage guard
Nothing wrong with it & drives beautifully but I have decided to treat myself to something more recent
MOT to April too

Yes I reckon in terms of capacity vs. value for money it's on par with the Omega estate (compared with the V70 where you pay a premium for the Marque)
Slightly less capacity than the Omega but then it is the largest estate that I found which is why I bought the Traktor in the first place - it has served me remarkedly well in the past 7.5 years & I'll probably miss it!

Agreed, I have a Citroen C4 Grande Picasso 7 seater (Overdue for return), minimum 44 MPG Mig does 24 MPG on same runs   lots of town use and easy 50mpg (36 in the Omega) on a run, more if steady away, I have had 60 on a dual / motorway keeping to the speed limit using cruise......

Why oh Why did I buy another Omega.......

Its sounds like a good buy. worked at citroen for 6 years and they undercut every car price wise at that time. well done on the new purchase

I have an 02 plate C5 estate, with the 2.2 diesel engine. One of the best cars I have ever had, extremely comfortable, good MPG, great for carrying camping gear/dogs/etc. It has 160k on the clock and doesn't show it.
Also, the garage I bought it from about 6 months ago was probably the most helpful car dealer I have come across, the service probably makes it better in my mind

I must admit I've been thinking about these if I ever let go of the Omega. I need a decent size estate car and these seem to fit the bill. My brother in law has the car version and it seems to be well kitted out and very comfortable and reliable. Only thing that puts me off is that it's FRENCH!! Had a bad experience with a Pug 605 a few years ago and ended up costing me a lot of money.
