Weren't the German (and possibly therefore all Opel-spec) top model Omegas designated MV6? And Elite was a UK-only designation? Then when it came to making a sporty model (1998 i think) Vauxhall looked at what other badges they had at their disposal, thought 'MV6' sounded cool, so started it as a special edition, then becoming part of the main range. Opel used 'Sport' instead, i think.

Sounds about right. Opels top of the line Omega was called mv6. 3 litre engine and all the toys. Opel Omega mv6 was only available prefacelift i believe. Faceliftversions didnt have the mv6 name to my knowledge. Elite is a vauxhall only name.

Just to add to the confusion I have a 3.0ltr ex police MV6.All exterior badges say so and it's an auto, seems to have most of the basic elements that you would need in a car but I do agree there are'nt any extra bits and pieces in the car that would make it a bit more luxurious, but lets face it it was a just a piece of equipment to be used and abused and with both of my MV6's thats pretty obvious, actually almost vandalism in my view >:(

I may have an answer to that. I have always been led to believe that the Police Spec Omegas were technically MV6s for the simple reason that of you wanted a 3.0/3.2 lump that was never an option on the Select/GLS/Poverty spec models. Same goes for LSDs, traction control blahblahblah. So what they did was technically order MV6s, but have all the spec 'deleted'.

As far as Im aware Plod-Meegas never had recaros, climate control and all the other stuff associated with higher spec models etc fitted. Presumably it was simpler on the production line to 'delete' loads of spec, rather than 'add' sports suspension/biig engine etc to a Select, which would mean a different loom, too. Or maybe I just dreamt the whole thing.  :D

Police Omegas are 3.0/3.2 MV6 running gear, GLS spec, apart from on later cars front fogs and Xenon headlights.

In my opinion that would make for a very nice Omega - big poky engine, uprated bouncy bits and no toys to add weight or rob power.
