what kind of camera was it? Those new really small ones which are mounted quite high are popular in London now as they are all in one jobbies:

ANPR readers
Speed Camera
Red Light Camera

Ironic really, you speed up to get through on an amber light, but can be done for speeding  >:(

Anyone else around you that could have set it off?

Yep, and if you tread on your anchors to stop for the light and are a few mm across the white line because you're worried about having the following LTI TX4 embedded in your rear end they'll get that on CCTV and do you for that. ;D

On the A4 its always tough call, speed limit is 50, lights change, its quicker to give a boot full and get through, rather than slam on the brakes.

Tunnie, you may want to brush up...

175

You MUST stop behind the white ‘Stop’ line across your side of the road unless the light is green. If the amber light appears you may go on only if you have already crossed the stop line or are so close to it that to stop might cause a collision.

[Laws RTA 1988 sect 36 & TSRGD regs 10 & 36]

Deffo no mention of speeding up, or breaking the speedlimit to get through  :y

Try that on the A4 at rush hour and you'll get what Kev mentions above, seen it many a time!

Its fine for 30mph limits, but on fast dual carriageways person behind you needs to be alert too!

Would not the best way to prevent this happening be to drive within the posted speed limit and 'read' the road ahead as you progressed?

I'm only saying of course, not judging.

That doesn't help when the bloke behind you fails to do so and slams into you at the red light (or amber, when he's assuming you'll gun it through..), though  :D

In the event of a prosecution for disobeying a traffic signal or exceeding the posted speed limit I don't think that's going to be a viable defence on every occasion all the same A.

I'm happy enough to be hit up the rear.

I have a feeling you might regret that sentence!  ;D ;D

You're right, of course - it wouldn't be any defence in court, at all.. and generally speaking I try to drive to accommodate the people in front of me, behind me, and beside me - I've had too many close calls in my (relatively short, I suppose!) time behind the wheel to assume anyone else on the road has half a clue about how to drive  ;D
