Slightly off topic...but still Vauxhall!

Just read codes on my sister's Astra ('96 1.6 petrol) come up with code 0505 which according to booklet is Idle speed stepper motor/Idle air regulator,can this be cleaned or will it need replacing?...Many thanks...Wayne

No...its not an idle valve.....I suspect its the C16NZ engine which is a single point injection setup (Multec?) with a throttle body, bloody huge injector and a small bypass channel for the idle function.

The stepper motor is mounted on the front of the throttle body and held by two torx screws, remove it and give it a dam good clean and a light lube (peel back the rubber boot).....if you re-connect it, every time the ignition is turned on and off it should operate (no need to start the car) as a little test.

Also give the throttle body a dam good clean and the orrafice into which the stepper motor fits.

Hi Mark and thanks :y...your'e right it is the C16NZ  SPI engine in at the moment (raining AGAIN)...but hopefully try and get it done...Thanks again....Wayne

Just a note check around the throttle body for a label 'cause some have a coating so you mustn't use carb cleaner or other solvent on the TB just wipe with a rag the best you can :y  If its not to late now
