still leaking oil :-(
« on: 17 November 2010, 18:49:59 »

i had breathers cleaned and genuine vx rocker gasket/o rings fitted in the hope of clearing the oil leak at front of engine  that was dropping onto plastic sump tray , the gasket was done 2 weeks ago and iam still seeing oil gathering on the plastic tray its by no means loads but ive wiped it and sometimes it will last a couple of days but then i can see a blob of oil appear again but this seems to happen more if i face it down hill in the drive, could it still be the excess oil finding a path from when the rockers were leaking,? i /  really hoping so as i havnt the funds to be getting crank seal/cambelt  done before xmas (crank seal was previous diagnosis from garage after just looking under the bonnet) i then had advice from you guys to check the rocker gaskets as this could have been the cause - which at first i thought it was as the "pots" were full of oil so i had the gaskets changed in the hope it would cure it, if it is the crank seal thats leaking am i playing with fire driving it 300-400 miles a week ?

Do you still have oil in the plug wells?

no they are clear as is the smell of burnt oil i used to get after a long journey, seems all good apart from the leak at front , whats the recomendations  for still using it if the crank seal is leaking? the only thing that points towards it ever having a cambelt replacement  are two white marker dots at the top of engine (well i presume they are timing marks anyway) other than that i havnt a clue when it was last changed
thanks

If you're only seeing a blob of oil after a couple of days then I don't see any problem with driving it. I know it is difficult but try and see where that blob is coming from.  Keep a close eye on the oil level though and as you don't know when the cambelt was last done I would make that very high on the priority of things to do.
