I knew I should have gone out in the snow with a torch to look instead of asking such a stoopid question ::) :-[

Must confess, I've bought them as a "Just in Case" as I didn't have any problems last year... Mind you, we're forecast heavy(ish) snow for the next 48 hours and whatever falls will most likely still be on our road for the next 3 or 4 weeks

I have had a couple of slips and slides, snow on black ice..... ::) I now have a full tank and 3 bags of sand in the boot, been to work today in some really bad conditions and not problems.... :y Braking is another matter, always testing the road and leave a good gap....

These are just for the emergency situation, hopefully never to be used, unless on the hill back into our village... :y that is partly why I did not want to draw the attention of swmbo.... ::) ::)

I rarely use the brakes in these conditions... Use the engine and a very slight touch on the brakes, mainly to illuminate the stop lights :y
