Omega seats - uncomfortable!
« on: 17 December 2010, 22:52:25 »

Although I have been driving an Omega for about 6 years now, i havent until this week done a journey of much more than 100 miles. I have driven two journeys of just over 300 miles this week, and I must say I am disappointed in the level of comfort of the drivers seat. On both journeys my lower back was in some discomfort After about 150 miles. I tried adjusting the lumbar support, but that made it worse. The least worst setting was with the least support on the adjustment.
Also had discomfort in shoulders, neck and left leg - maybe I,m just finally falling apart. ::)
It felt as though something at the lower part of the seat back was digging into my back. The heater pad ? :-/
Would add that these are standard cloth seats.
Just to be a tad more controversial, I can remember driving my old Senator (with leather) to Stranraer (approx. 450 miles) with only a brief fuel stop, and I felt as fresh as a daisy when I got there. Could happily have turned round and driven straight back where I came from. Although I was 10 years younger then ;)

possibly weak or broken springs in the back of your seat, the rear pocket section can be taken off. self tappers at bottom corners, levers upwards.

should allow you to see the offending bit  :y

A car as big as the mig is the only one I can get comfy in, even 'normal' sized cars like a Mondeo I find are too small, I'm only 6'1" so not massive. My old Senator was the same. I could sit in my mig all day, and have done.

I'd go with vauxfan's suggestion of a failed spring or some other problem. I've had Senators too & would consider them to be comparable with each other (apart from an Omega Elite seat not going low enough  ;), & only one lumbar suport  ;D) I've spent all day in my Omega a few times and have had no problems what-so-ever ....... & my back can be a bit iffy at the best of times.  :y

without looking i would guess its a facelift? reason i say this is when i bought the 2.2dti estate i did just over 500 miles in it and thought this is strange its not comfortable? however on my old faithful i have done several trips to spain  and from spain to england over 1300 miles each time nonstop!! and never had a problem,
I think its the lumbar suport in the facelift is not as good as the prefacelift? but i could be wrong!!!

I've done wiltshire to Hannover in one go without any discomfort.  As has already been mentionned I think your seats may be knackered

Just brought the project car back from England and we did about a 1000 miles on the last day. I thought the leather seats were not as comfortable as the cloth seats in the other car.

I have been uncomfy sometimes but it does help to adjust a bit on the seat height now and again just to vary the position slightly.
Facelift cloth seats by the way.

For me MV6 seats I find more comfortable than the elite seats. .  not sure why maybe because MV6 seats are more firm? There shouldn't be anything sticking in you through the seat though Albs! check it out mate :y
