Headlamp bulbs
« on: 14 January 2011, 17:32:00 »

I've just replaced all 4 headlamp bulbs with Nightbreakers, I can't remember ever changing any of these in the 12 years  I've had the car.

I took the battery off for better access, but has anyone changed the LH ones, particularly the main beam bulb, without taking the battery off?

While changing the bulbs, I noticed slight play in the reflectors on both sides, is this normal? :-? :y

Prefer to remove the headlight myself.

To change the bulb? Admittedly I haven't had a headlight off, but that seems a little drastic. :y

..yup - that's how I do it too - even to change the sidelight bulb. If you know where al the bolts are - it's a 10 minute job. You need to get the plastic trim under the headlight off to get at one of the bolts.

cheers

If you remove the battery clamp there's enough slack in the main battery cables to move/tip the battery back enough to give access to the back of the headlights.
As Rob says, it depends how much 'slight play' is. Very 'slight' is normal IMO, I think you'd know if the adjuster(s) were broken - that'd give lots of play.  ;) ;)

Even with hands like shovels I leave my headlights where they are.  :y

Really?!

Takes me less than a minute to change the sidelight bulb with the bonnet open.

I'm afraid that the TD battery size means that this would be very difficult to achieve. :y

My TD battery is snug and only moves about 5mm. :y

Ah! I've seen a TD battery! They're HUGE! I think removal would be the best option

It certainly made the swap simple, and allowed me to easily reset my assymetric levers at the same time. :y
