Economical 3.2 elite estate

Always wondered just how much extra it costs to run my 3.2 omega elite estate as opposed to my wifes economical 1.9 Tdci signum.
SO
At beginning of week we both filled up to max our petrol tanks, left from Dalgety Bay and travelled to other side of Perth at as close to same speed as possible. Came back to Dalgety Bay and re filled our tanks. Her bill was £9.71 and mine was £12.34 !!
The difference of 27% related to £2.63 more for my petrol as compared to her diesel. Not much is it.
Decission made I will keep my non depreceating Omega 3.2 for another 8 years.

Not sure how many miles you did, but the difference between buying a newer, (and supposedly better), car is only a couple of pence per mile. Factor in the purchase cost, main dealer servicing, (for warranty reasons), and depreciation, newer cars lose out everytime. :o

If you replaced every mechanical component on an Omega with brand new vx parts, it would still cost significantly less than than a new Insignia of equivalent spec....

Probably.

By all means get a new car if you need/want one, but remeber you WILL pay for it.

Miggies are for life, not just for christmas... :D

couldnt agree more taxi....

i honestly couldnt imagine selling my omega. sure i could buy a similar spec brand new car for lots of money and it wouldnt give me anywhere near the probs my old girl has caused me......... but its really like having a best friend, not just a mode of transport!!!

That's interesting, funny old world.. :)  I recently returned a Lease Car giving, almost double MPG in diesel, now running the Omega but fuel costs have not doubled.... ::)  So better off with with a cheaper, less economical car, that has some character.... :)

Had the same experience with a Seat Altea.. Bought it for £12.5k. Went back to finance company after 2 years/ 135k. Value £2.5k :'( Only did 38 mpg though.

Mig costs 2p per mile more in fuel. Saving £340 per month on the finance alone.

Which is nice :y

Total mileage was just over 60 and mostly motorway. My computer showed almost 29 per gallon sitting between 70 and 80

on that front, my Bentley frequently does single figures on the way home from work, which costs me I guess an extra tenner a day.

BUT, it's worth at least a tenner in "smile" value.
