White van man
« on: 29 January 2011, 22:16:48 »

As of tomorrow i will be a white (cream) van man.
due to the increasing fuel prices ive got a L reg corsa combi van 1.7D  to use for comuting to work and also more importantly i can keep the omega  :y
as i am more often than covered in grease and oil ect from work the van is perfect for my needs aswell as been more economical than the omega,as i say white/cream van its in need of a good spruce/tidy up which is all good as it will be a little project for me on a weekend. father in laws van so i know its a good un despite him not using a sponge or duster on it in the last 12 mths :o
Downsides ... i may have to set of to work a bit earlier as its a bit on the slow side  ;D

I used to run a van (Bedford HAs) many moons ago. In those days it was cheap insurance, but I hear they charge a fortune to insure vans these days, probably assuming vans earn loads of money.   ::)

Indeed they do ..........  >:(
We also run an '02 VW Caddy SDi van purely as a 'second car' and have found that insurers simply don't accept that it'll be used solely for 'SD&P' purposes. :-?

However, one or two insurers are happy to cover such vans on a 'private car basis' and we've just renewed ours with these people:
http://www.cvd-insurance.co.uk/PrivateVanInsurance.aspx?source=6&gclid=CPmn_p_C36YCFcse4Qod9HPBzw

It's an Aviva policy, and we got Comprehensive cover with unlimited mileage and protected NCB for £387 with a £200 excess. ;)
That's effectively no increase for us on previous years premiums, with better terms and cover, so reckon it's a realistic price. :y

Adrian Flux quoted £639 for an identical Aviva policy! >:(

I insure my van with The Post Office - it was actually cheaper than insuring the Renault Scenic I had before it. - almost 40% cheaper in fact (800 vs 1200) on an identical policy.
That's on fully comp, class 2 business (own stock only) with 12,000 miles a year.
Plus, you WILL end up using it for guvvies

You can't class a "corsa combi" as a van  ;D Transit or nothing :y

Combo's are pure class, better than both the Caddy and Berlingo in my opinion, if you get a new Combo order it with the Maxx pack as it gets you some nice extras  :y
