Just an idea needed
« on: 12 February 2011, 20:16:34 »

Just wanted an idea on what value i could put on my car. At its only a GLS i am either considering selling, upgrade to a higher spec Mig or if its worth peanuts just keep it.

What would you pay?

2000 X plate 2.5 V6 GLS 41552 miles MOT December 2011

Full VX service history 9 stamps. Cambelt, tensioners, waterpump, front pads and discs, new osr / nsr brake pipes, oil change, filter change, air filter in the last 1500 miles.

4 nearly new tyres with CD alloys ( near mint except 1 ding on bonnet and small scuff on front bumper)

Only fault is passenger door intermittantly not locking with key.

Starting to fancy an Elite ;)

With a years MOT and tax, probably around the £800 mark at most I'm afraid :P :P ;)

Spec wise all the basics are covered but gls has rear manual windows, no trip computer, no front fogs, no cruise.

So why not just upgrade yours.?

How many times do you "need" electric windows in the back?. Hardly never.

Cruise control. I couldn't be without. Great for giving your feet a rest and sticking to the speed limits on long journeys. There is a how to. Get one from a breaker or me when I scrap my red car.

Front fogs I would presume are easy to fit.

xenons? More trouble than they are worth.

self levelling suspension. More things to go wrong.

Wider tyres. Look good but I'm not convinced that most people would notice any improvement. Cost more to replace.

Trip computer. Nice thing to fiddle about with. Can that be retrofitted? Don't know.

Do you have variable delay windscreen wipe? Now that is a useful gizmo.

Yes i have variable delay wipers. Like i says it an idea at the moment. Would prefer a elite with everything on it rather that adding everything on my gls.

If the right elite came along thats the way i would like to go.

That car is worth a fortune to you, but not to a buyer, I agree with the idea of "spec'ing" it up a bit. (rear blind, cruise etc.)

With mileage that low I'd be adding the toys to it rather than selling and upgrading ;)

It is fairly easy to upgrade with some of the toys.
Most electrical items are a case of fitting and finding the connection and plugging it in.
The standard wiring harness seems to have all the plugs but mostly tied away out of harm.

trouble with GLS is big chunks of the loom won't be there to plug new toys in, like a blind ect, but anything is possible. Considering sub 80/90k mileage ones are rare I would keep yours...

HID's you can plug in
Bose? Well Dave DND can step in here, set of decent modern speakers, better headunit, as the CDR2005 is shite! Could make a big difference to sound.
Alloys? Thats easily sorted.
leccy seats, do you need them? really?
Self dipping mirror, can be easily added
Lip spoiler? Might take a while to source one, but again, easy to fit....
