Nearly an expensive mistake - MOT Related
« on: 18 February 2011, 15:38:53 »

Was convinced my MOT was due next month but for some reason I dug the paperwork out (actually had to find it as it went AWOL when we got back from Italy) to discover it expires at midnight tonight :-[

Couldn't get it into my normal test place so found somewhere else... Failed on both outer track rod ends and handbrake (which I knew about)... Unfortunately I'm in no fit state to do it so going back tomorrow to get it done... Handbrake is the cables hanging up so new cables going on. Not too bad though... £140 for the work and £40 for the test. Still money I could have done without spending :'( Might not be able to come to the Hampshire meet now... Got to do the sums ::)

What at PITA!

Technically you can drive it to a place to have the repairs carried out? A place in Hampshire, perhaps? Probably pushing it a bit. ;D

Trouble is I need it during the week and I know I'll get a tug if I try it ::)

To be fair, I think he'd have let the handbrake go if that was it :-X

Not actually an unreasonable price though, considering he's replacing all the cables and doing the track rod ends :-/

Still bugs me paying someone else to do work I'm perfectly capable of doing myself (normally) >:(

Should still be coming down, depending how much it is though. Just could have done without it this month ::)

Thinking back, I have a vague recollection of a similar situation last year, although I'd booked it in for the 9th Feb thinking it ran out on 8th March :-[ ::)

Worst thing is, I know that I could get the parts for about £40 or so :'( :'(

Cheers mate... I'll bite the bullet now as I've got no choice - I need the car Monday morning and they've ordered the parts in now :y

I'm not in a fit state to roll around under it at all at the moment so just got to swallow it :'( I'll just keep telling myself that I've saved over £5000 on fuel costs in the last 27 months :y :y

Nice thing is that he did compliment me on it... Was surprised that a 170k, 12 year old car failed on so little... No advisories and was impressed with the general condition :y :y

Although he did comment that it looks like it gets driven quite hard sometimes :-X ::)

Well... I'm back ::) Might still have to look at the handbrake next weekend... Think the cable is rattling somewhere but wouldn't be too keen on going back there ;)

Unfortunately it looks like I'll be needing a trip to WIM fairly soon now though

It'll only be the toe that's out, surely? Or is there a wear issue?
