Aux belt tensioner
« on: 09 July 2007, 12:03:57 »

Is anybody able to do a quick "how to" for the aux belt tensioner? I just really need the order of things and what needs to come off to get to it.

Thanks in advance peeps

what are you trying to do, remove the belt or the whole tensioner....

To slip the belt - for example off - its a 15mm socket on the pulley to release the tension and slip the belt off....

If you just need to change the pulley, all you need is a 15mm spanner.....you dont even need to take anything else off

I undid the 15mm in the pulley and nothing happened  :'( The 2 15mm that hold on the tensioner are restricted by 2 metal water pipes. Let me know if pics help.

Does the aux belt need to come off when doing timing belt?

you shouldnt be undoing the 15mm - its a case of levering it and you will feel the tension on the aux belt loosen so you can slip it off..have you got the cambelt DVD?

Oh well, if it needs to come off for timing belt then I will leave it. Just thought I would try it. I was planning to get the locking kit in 3 weeks but my need to go to Plymouth before that. Don't want to go without doing the belt. Got a quote for cambelt, water pump and aux tensioner  300+ vat  :'( :'(   Not sure what to do now.

That's not a bad quote.

get the cambelt DVD - PM robin hood and offer him £3  ;)

Study the DVD, its excellent and will be of huge assistance, get the complete cambelt kit (on TC) I can get it if you want with my card, and borrow/hire cambelt locking kit.

Change from £150 if your lucky. Oh and do the water pump at the same time.  ;) again its on TC

I have got all the parts sat here, but can't do anything with them. The quote was just labour. I shall be getting the DVD shortly and have enlisted the help of Hotel21 and DaveL. It's just that I need to do 1000 miles plus before the availability of locking kit and Hotel21 is away for 4 weeks.
