« on: 23 February 2011, 15:10:41 »

hi all,
i am new on this forum but need to ask a bit of advice,
my 2008 zafira 19 cdti has suffered vibration since i got it at the beginning of 2009,
it vibrates through the whole of the body and has been driven by a vaux mechanic but he say's he cannot feel anything, it is not severe but it is there, i know it is,
but when driving if i dip the clutch it dissapeares clutch out again and it's back, now i have driven very heavy goods vehicles all my life and can feel if things are not right,
what i am thinking is after reading through a lot of forums is, is it the dual mass flywheel on it's way out,
my warranty runs out in may so need to get it fixed on warranty if it is the dmf,
has anybody else got any ideas what could cause this vibration,
thanks,
rick.

Sounds quite possible. I'd be taking it into Vauxhall and demanding they put it right as it's still under warranty ;) :y

you must get back to VX before the warranty expires.

the dealers may give you s**t on the situation but on the 150bhp 1.9 cdti this is a serious and common fault. I have been there twice with the SWMBO's Signum and won on both occasions. Get them to take photos as VX Luton will argue driver abuse - everytime -  this is VX standard practice. What you need to push for is new DMF and clutch as the clutch will most likley have been damaged as well. At retail pricesyou are looking at £1300 - £1500 - no joke.

I happen to have a VX dealer who actually goes into bat for me given the business he has had from us over the years. Even when the job is done you have to check whether they have damaged your undertray (you only have an undertray on diesels - a noise thing) cos if they have the retail price is £400 or something stupid - they also sometimes miss off a few bolts here and there (from the clutch bearing cover plate) which is another battle

Does it clock when you start it up?

If it does, it could be the DMF....thats the usual tell tail.

They did change the unit in 2008 and to fit the later one requires a new pressure plate.

I have to say though, I have not seen the DMF nobble a clutch yet.

the problem is less frequent on the 120 bhp but the problem on the 150 bhp is most definitely the diesel engine torque - clutch damage does arise and I think this is why VX insist on the photos because they too did not expect the clutch burn out.

Looks like you need to go to different VX dealer - assume you are talkng to Charles Warner at present.

This does seem like DMF to me - you need to see if they will ask VX HQ to approve them to check it out properly. Don't understand why with possibilty of warranty work the dealer is not playing ball. Trouble with faulty DMF is that people can get away with driving on it for ages and put up with rattle but in your case you have to keep pushing - maybe write to VX HQ and explain problem to them - it has worked for me before now.

Yeh, DMF failure is a known issue across the patch.

I seem to recall the 1.9 diesel ones are the Sachs versions.

If the clutch is going then thats a shite driver as I have seen them at 60K and 100K miles with hardly a mark on them and leads of meat left.

It is interesting how the Omega ones last so well though!

the post is obviously most appropriate in the Vectra/Signum/Zafira forums for VX people but as Omegas gradually cease to roam the earth then OOF members will find themselves migrating to pastures new and may benefit as a result.

the issue here is whether or not there is some sort of design fault that potential buyers of Vectra/Signum/Zafira should be aware and therefore raising the matter in our forum is hopefully beneficial.

At dealer prices you can be looking at £1400 a throw for DMF/clutch - my wife has had 2 dmf go in 3 years - but her driving is not the best!!! Evenso - the dmf should be more resilient in VX.

The point we are making is that DMF's are not great in ANY make of diesel car  :y
