Sadly I have had to part company with my much loved 2.2.dti cd estate. See my original post re fuel injection pump failure back in January. The repair bill made it economically senseless, with the mot due at the end of March. The car will be greatly missed by myself and my 3 kids, whose only complaint about the car was having to use a blanket on the the leather seats to stop the booster seats from squeaking.
Many thanks to all the members and enthusiasts who offered advice and comments. I will certaintly consider buying another Omega, but for now I have t0 be grateful for the Omegas replacement, a Vectra 2.0 dti dcx.

Thanks for the replies. Had The Vec about a fortnight and done just over a thousand miles. Fortunately its only me and the kids, so they take turns at one sitting in the front, thus creating a space between the other 2 in the back. Car seem to be reasonably economical on fuel, so far. Even got a small refund on the insurance. And the road tax will be cheaper when its due.

How many miles did the Fuel pump fail at and did you notice any tell tale signs beforehand?

EDIT: Just read another post saying it's been run on Veg Oil so I guess that explains it.

leather would not of squeeked if you used say autoglym on it,we have a car with leather thats been ours since new and always used autoglym leather care and guess what the leather chairs are like new still and don't creek crack or look crap.

sorry to hear about the pump though,is that true about the veg ?? i know my dad did 14k miles in a dti on bio that my mate has now for 2 and a half years and its still going mint so i dunno what to believe  :-?

The car was 51 plate 2.2dti cd estate and had done 130000 miles, the last 10000 or so was on bio-diesel blended with with ordinary fuel, but the proportions varied, sometimes upto 90% bio or upto 100% ordinary. Car ran through the winter with temperatures down to -14c on 60/40 blend bio/ordinary. There were no obvious signs of anything untoward. The fuel pump failure was quite sudden, car running normally at lunchtime, but then wouldn't start at teatime.

PS  The leather seats only squeaked when the kids used their booster seats, one of the booster seats has a polystyrene base.

I've run various cars on a mix, the last, a Xantia, had its bosch pump seals fail fairly dramatically after 2 years.

I read that some seals fail early in the prescence of veg oil.
