a acouple of questions

first question, what makes the car "wobble" under braking i've changed the disks and pads not so long ago but the wobble is back could this be wishbones e.t.c, and i was at the tip today and saw a guy throwing away a 2.5 ton trolley jack which seems to work but goes up very slowly would this point to low oil and if so what oil and if not! any ideas on how hard they are to repair many thanks,

Did you fit cheap, pattern discs and pads?  Also check for any play in suspension and steering

when you fitted the discs did you clean up the hub face with a wire brush so it was nice and clean?.jack prob just want topping up with jack oil.if it slowly creaps down under load prob got a weeping seal.paul

thanks for the replies, i fitted brembo disks and pads? so far as i know fairly reliable i will check the suspension for play as soon as the rain stops if this can cause that, no i gotta say i didn't clean the hub face but immediately after changing all was fine for three months i even took the car out of gear at lights so as not to warp them could a caliper be causing this? i mean if it was only working half the pads would that cause over heating although it did stop straight and well, before i bought the car they had hust been changed(1 1/2 yrs) and i changed them i geuss august last year 9 months can't be right can it?

I won't comment on the "wobble" .. far more knowledgeable folks around than me .... but I WILL comment on the trolley jack ....

These are expensive items with a decent resale value ... so are not usually just "dumped" without due cause.

I would be exceedingly concerned that whatever fault it has could cause a sudden collapse when lifting the best part of a 2 ton car. I know we only lift "half" of it .. but it is still a decent weight.

Folks with working brain cells don't work under cars supported only by jacks, however you have to get a bit under the car to position the axle stands ... if this "suspect" trolley jack were to fail at that point it could be fatal.

I have seen the result of someone trapped by a failed jack. It was NOT a nice sight. "Witness marks" in the underseal and the state of his nails showed it took a considerable time for him to die, in what is assumed to be considerable pain.

IMHO....  DON'T TRUST IT ..... IT'S NOT WORTH THE RISK

i gotta say i would never work under a car unsupported  it's something that was drummed into me as a kid but as for getting axle stands under i always jack only to the point where they slip under so if it did fall these would rapidly catch the car, as for being an expensive one that i don't know looks more halfords mid range with a twisty handle i think i'll oil it and try it under my car and see what it does! as i say i only ever lift with them and if a car ever fell i always have a place to go so i don't get pinned.

I'd take it straight back to where you got it from mate and leave it there

yeah i see the reason but i just can't stand the throw away society, i'll strip it down and re-seal it before i take it back as far as i can see it was just slow lifting which i geuss is low fluid or one of the seals gone
