Yes, some chap on here has a '99 car which somebody hit. He recons insurance would value it at £800, but he will repair it for £300. Why not buy an '03 car, almost the same money, buy your car back from insurance for not much and weigh it in. You will have gone from a '99 to '03 and still have a few quid in the bank.
That's the financial sense. However its another mig scrapped, a car that will probably be capable of many more miles of useful service with a small amount of work. Such a shame.
I sometimes think about scraping my car, with its few niggling problems and getting a late V6 a bit of fun, ..... but there again, I have almost become attached to her, spent too long respraying her, fitting LPG, servicing etc, and she has carried me and th family for many miles, with only a few problems (like head gaskets, foreign matter causing the cambelt to jump, crap waterpumps breaking, crap halfords alternators destroying halfords batteries.....)
