Hi, I've been using a 2.2 diesel Elite for the last 18 months as a taxi in Lincolnshire and as a result of greedy fat men upping the price of fuel again for longer than I can remember, I have been on a personal mission to squeeze as many extra miles as poss.
Luckily mine does'nt have the downside of either a cat or the devils gadget -the diesel particulate filter. this being so I wish to see my baby into old age along with myself, with dignity and style.
The first thing I have done is to replace the standard air filter with a K&N replacement, improvng MPG, and for the last 7-8 months I have also introduced a few squirts of acetone into the tank at every fill up.
I am extremely pleased with the extra MPG and performance, but I suspect that more savings can be made.

Any ideas ?

PS. My emmissions are checked every 6 months by my local council who are continually impressed at the reductions.

Guaranteed to only ensure your pocket is emptier after purchase, it will do nothing for airflow etc.

As for additive, 2 stroke oil at one prt per 200 is a good option.

We get randomly tested for red by you know who - the penalties are too severe to contemplate, even if there were any temptations.
We are all CRB (enhanced) checked, which means that we aint crims or child molesters. but thanks for the idea anyway.
As for the K&N, this has been responsible for the largest MPG so far. I have experimented with reverting back to the old paper one for a month or two, no contest.
Will investigate the 2 stroke idea and let you know.

Are you comparing a KandN with a new paper filter (note, not a crappy small aftermarket one).

Airfilter downgrades 'upgrades' on the Omega do nothing as they are not free'er flowing than the huge paper element unit.

Plus oiled filters clog much quicker.

It can only be a placebo effect  ........ there's no way on earth a cone filter sucking warm air from within the engine bay can be 'better' than an OE filter in an OE housing sucking cold/ambient air from outside via the grille. But it'll sound 'nicer'

Its not a cone but a replacement filter. I have to be subtle cos council testers can make a difference to life on earth.

Compared with OE there's little that can touch it.

You could be right Andy, all I know is that my milage and emmissions show good improvement for a 240K oil burner.
PS. I used to live in Denton in the 50s & 60s. Happy days.

Used to be Lancashire, now its something called Tameside. Too many changes without too many improvements - the way of the world  eh?
Just Googling 2 stroke additives.
