Cleaning out breather hoses
« on: 30 March 2011, 20:10:53 »

Thought I'd share a little home inspiration.

Was giving my breathers a good clean out yesterday when my eye fell upon an oil suction pump and a can of petrol. The connection was made and a suck of petrol later I was pumping petrol straight down the black plastic (forgotten what the bit in the centre is called) holes. Did the job a treat.

Not sure what it'll do to the rubber on my suction pump but I left it to dry thoroughly before a quick layer of oil was applied so hopefully OK.

On the more general front, is petrol not too volatile to be used as a solvent?

When I recently changed my cam cover gasket I was planning to clean out my Breather tubes as well.

Then I found out that you can buy 3 brand new breathers from Vauxhall for £20.73 all in.

Save's a bit of work and It's a nice feeling putting brand new parts on your car.

I know they won't perform any better then the old one's if I just cleaned them out, but for the sake of a score, I thought why not  8-) 8-) :y

Seemed to work OK. Laid everything out to dry and then changed the spark plugs etc while I was waiting for it to dry.

Its not just the pipes you need to clean out though. theres also the breather box at the rear of the o/s head, the throttle bodies, plenum and the small tubes in the black plastic piece (cant remember what its called atm) on top of the plenum. ;)

Yeah, and that little one in the black plastic bit is so narrow it is a joke. Really need to get that one done. That bit down the back of the engine is a bugger too.

£20? Night out at Wetherspoons!
