It's a shame, but she's got to go :(
« on: 03 April 2011, 16:08:18 »

Well, my Omega owning days are finally drawing to an end. Just got a new job, with a long commute, so a big V6 makes no economic sense. With the price of fuel, tax and an MOT looming, I'm trading her for a European oil burner with 80 less BHP but uses less than half the amount of fuel. Been given only £700 as px, which is a shame for such a lot of car, but it's the old supply and demand thing I guess. The pokey French cloth covered seats seem tiny compared to the leather armchairs of the Omega, but I guess that's the price you pay.. and as for that gear stick thing....  :'(
Thanks to all you guys for help keeping her on the road for the last two years - it's one hell of a support network  :y :y :y

£700 quid would have DIY LPG'd it  ;)

LPG pence per mile, is just as cheap as an oil burner  :y

£700 maybe an add on the forum or elsewhere could have got you a few hundred £££'s more.

Saying that Omegas arnt shifting at the moment so its probably not too bad.

What have you bought?

That's the thing - I start in under two weeks, and the petrol ones are not really selling well - If I had more time I would have probably advertised it here or on the bay. As for LPG, you need to run the car for a couple of years before it starts to pay.... so going for a Scenic dci  :o

No it doesn't, you say its a long commute, how long? Mine used to be 75 miles each way.

I repaid my costs of £700 in around 4 months  :)

I was saving £10+ per day on my work commute alone, not account for personal miles.

I know it's another lot of insurance, road tax & MOT, but that aside, my diseasal Astra 'saves' me a gallon of fuel each day I use it instead of the Omega ........... 45mpg vs 20/22mpg

I can see where you are coming from Tunnie... my commute will be 130 miles 3-5 days a week. However, it's not just about that. I don't have the time or facilities to DIY the LPG (new baby etc.), so would have to pay to have it fitted. Then, there is the fact that the car is 9 years old, and whilst I have replaced some things, there are more on the way. I'll be leasing the Scenic, and it will be under warranty for the three years that I have it, so unless I am really unlucky, I know how much it is going to cost me, and I don't have to tax or MOT it, and if it fails, I get another car to use whilst it gets fixed.

Well good luck on it  :y

I almost in same situation (minus the baby!  ;D) I went from a 20 mile daily commute to 150 miles, my 2.2 already had 100k+ on it when I started. Now ground to halt on 152k with my 150 mile monthly miles I get done at best!  ;D

Thanks to this forum, and knowledge of DIY maintenance meant it was super cheap to run.

I was very lucky in having experts on my door step!

I've often wondered if it'd be better to go back to a diseasal something (probably the 1.7TDi Astra estate) .. but then I fill the Omega floor to ceiling from the front seats back and take it all to the tip.. and think about the fact that it'd take two trips in an Astra ;D

My current job is about 18 miles, and it's jumping to 62 miles, but alas, after two years of no wage increase and none on the horizon, got to chase the $$$ to pay the bills  :-/

Lucky you
I got the info two days ago.
After little more than two years worinkg in current company I've been informed that this is my last contract (was extended for three months till end of June) and that they will kick me in the butt throught the front door when it expires.
All that after two years working on the project with enormous amount of unpaid overtime hours, great results etc...
