Window tint removal......aaaahhhhhggg!!!!
« on: 21 March 2011, 15:38:57 »

Finally got round to having a go at removing my front window tints after being pulled up and warned by plod. Using a heat gun and a sharp window scraper blade, I managed to get the film off relatively easily, however, the glue left behind on the window is a rather nightmare!! >:( Been trying using the window scaper blade, white spirit and meths and it's a real sod to remove. Think its going to be several weekends before they're completely clean. :'(

Try Marks stuff, or if you cant get that anything thats got a lot of Acetone in it will do, Acetone Wipes, Nitromores etc, then wash of with water, but dont get it on plastics and watch your hands, were gloves.

Thanks Paul, but just ordered the stuff MDTM recommended from Screwfix. If that doesn't do the job then you're on. :y

Well, the Sticky Stuff Remover recommended by MDTM works really well and first application has near enough got rid of most of the glue film, but it's a long messy job and it's going to need at least one more application to get the windows really clear.
An OOF top tip...........if you're considering having window tints, make sure the front window tints are strictly legal because, believe me, you really don't want to have to remove them!!  :-[

TBH I think it spoils the appearance as the rear windows are still tinted, so it now has a "van like" look. :'(
I'll get some pics done when it's finished and cleaned.
