Is LPG Worth it?
« on: 12 May 2011, 20:52:18 »

Right... For those who are questioning whether LPG is worth it... I normally fill up with LPG at a cost of about £51. This gets me between 275 and 380 miles (on a run) but normally about 300 miles :y

Admittedly I'm comparing a 3.0LPG against a 3.2 petrol but......

.... After 307 miles, driving the same types of roads and with the same enthusiasm, filled up the petrol tank for £81 :o :o

So saving is, as we all keep saying, about 10p per mile or around £30 per tank :o :o

I'd reckon on that being well and truly worth it ;D ;D

Or, to put it in a different way, 25 fill ups and you've already saved enough to pay for the kit ;) ;)

I've worked out why I can't get 300m from a LPG tank - mines a smaller tank than your old one...

No, but I don't use the Omega everyday, when we do use it, as a tow car, the boot is full. I'd prefer stuff in the boot rather than on the back seat etc.  ;) ;)

So maybe not worth it if its not your daily driver then ;)

To further clarify this;

25 fill-ups x £30 per tank saving = £750 - Easily get LPG kit for this.

25 fill-ups @ 307 miles per fill-up = 7,675miles.

Average mileage for a vehicle according to insurance comapnies and trader websites is 12,000 miles.

*You'll start making a saving if you do average miles in seven months!

*Assuming LPG doesn't increase in price like a fookin rocket!

25 fill ups is probably slightly low as I had a 90L tank, most will have an 80L or smaller... But that's irrelevant, the mileage of under 8k was what I was pointing out :y

On those figures about 6 months for pay back for me.... :)

Been considering my car situation recently, so varied you would not believe, however if I were to LPG an Omega it would be a V6, can't see the point of doing my 4 pot.......... :D :D

I was planning on LPG'ing the MV6 6 or 7 years ago ('professional' 2k install), but it was that very reason of loss of boot space that stopped me.  It was last year when it dawned on me, for those 2 or 3 times a year I actually need the full boot, just get a pikey roofbox.

Despite only being done a year, the MV6 has more than paid for its conversion.
