The europeans had the five speed auto but never fitted to any UK spec cars, but stealer should have known that and a check of the reg would have confirmed it :y

What Dave said, and have you tried getting your gaskets from JPAT? Alot cheaper than dealers apparently

Interesting. How easy to fit one of these 5 speed autos to a british car? Anyone tried? Would help mpg / performance considerably, I would think.

You'll have to go to Europe and live with the Diseasle lump that goes with it. The box may well fit a n other engine, I don't know, but there is no software in existence to run 5 speed box with any other engine other than 2.5dti/TDi or whatever it is...?

Exactly as chrisgixer says, only ever available on the Y25DT (the BMW common rail lump fitted to Opel only - UK got the rather naff, comparitively speaking, Y22DTH, 2.2DTi)

Therefore no software for anything other than the Y25DT, thus no good in any other car.

TD owners wanting a box change, as much as I hate the Omega manual, should change to a manual. Its a different car -*much* better MPG (a match for the 2.2DTi when chipped, economy wise), much more responsive.

If I were to buy another 2.5TD, and I have considered it, it would have to be a manual.

Carb cleaner. Parafin. White spirit. Anything petro chemical based the evaporates off.

Jpat will know if you tell them what car it is.

Mrs Opti swears blind that my 53 plate MV6 auto has five speeds. To be fair to her there does seem to be four distinct gear changes after moving off from rest... :-? :-?.....I wonder.. :y

I'm guessing torque converter... :y

........one thing that really pisses me off is when the auto box insists on changing down from top (4th) to 3rd every time I descend the slightest of slopes. Annoying.... >:( My old 3.2 plod estate had exactly the same party trick.... :(

Depends how steep, and if trying to keep within the speed limit or save fuel. It doesn't help save fuel, but if the hills steep it does help hold the car back.

IMO it's over sensitive though, as there's always the sport mode button if we want to more engine braking off the throttle.

I'm guessing anything steeper than about 1 in 12... :-/ :-/.....and another thing. It seems to like to stay in third gear at anything up to 40-45 mph.....even on a light throttle and a flat road......where it could easily take top at 30m.p.h.  :-/
