I was recently behind a chaved up Saxo(?) where he'd body coloured the tail lights (to dark blue). It was almost impossible to see his brake lights in the daytime.  :-? :-?

The SILVER paint looks great. Good nic. 

There are "some" people about though, with front end damage on their car, who will quite happy drive into the back of a car with smoked/painted/tinted/illegal rear lights knowing full well they will be in the clear claiming they couldn't see brake lights, and get their own car fixed for nout.

I don't know the legal situation, but I suspect they may well have a point. :-/

Like I said tho, the tints wouldn't be as dark as the picture and as for the legality of someone going up the back end, they would need an excuse for not seeing the big un modified brake light in the middle, however the law has now changed for accidents involving rear ends (I know this as my other half works for a car insurance company) If you go up the back end of another vehicle, it is now automatically your fault. And my insurance company have approved the tail lights being tinted and it wont cost me a Penny more on the premium lol.

What I fail to understand is why mess around with a key safety device that every one is dependant on?

Its 10pm at night, pitch black, raining. (not exactly uncommon in the UK!)

You want to reduce how bright & visible your brake light is?  :-/

Do you want people to run into the back of you?

I'm afraid that's not true. It wasn't true of the Micra that went into the back of me earlier this year, for example. He'd been punted there by the Range Rover behind him.

Even if it were true, what kind of attitude is that to take? Make your car less safe but it's OK because if it causes someone to have an accident it'll be "automatically their fault".

You are playing straight into the hands of anyone who drives into the back of you by giving them an important piece of ammunition - that your brake lights have been obscured and are probably below the brightness required by the construction and use regs.

Not worth it, IMHO, but then that would be my opinion of most cosmetic modifications.

Modify your car to your wishes, its yours after all. However modifying it to make it less safe for people around you sounds to me like an act of lunacy and selfishness.

I was reading the blog of the integra owner who ended up in prison after being involved in an accident. One of the points he brought up was how the police had used info from his owners club website against him in a court of law.

WOW I am surprised at the attitude of a lot of you. As if you are not able to see the space between you and the car in front getting smaller and you are not a tleast 2 seconds gapped then is the driver of the car behind that is at fault. Yes the lights will be darker but there is a 3rd BIG brake like that is eye level that isn't going to be tinted that you should be able to see.

I haven't taken the attictude that just because the law states its the car behinds fault. But I DRIVE SAFELY leaving big gaps between me and the car in front, And this thread has made me want to highly modify the car.

And if you are soo angry at ppl with tinted lights I suggest you double check your lights aren't factory tinted where a lot of Omega B Pre Facelifts are tinted which are DARKER and less visible than the standard clear lights.

Seriously STOP JUDGING and I am very annoyed at the fact this topic has gone OFF TOPIC and turned into a BLOOD BATH.

All I asked at the beginning was if it looked OK or not and look at the crap that has started.

I can't decide whether to put a line of       AT you for deciding the back of your car is safe for others to be behind with reduced light output. Omega prefacelift have a slight tint.
Or whether to put a line of    for your stupidity for not giving a flying f*** for those behind. The third high level brake light is irrelevant, and as for a driving with the 2 second gap etc etc, we have all been behind a car at sometime in our life that has no brake lights or has brake lights on all the time, so know how much more you need to concentrate cos you don't know when they're braking.

I hope you get pulled for it when you do modify/paint your lights!

ermmmmm tbh interfereing with road lights is a no no and all this car modding to me just looks sh'te,the galaxy is a people carrier and i thought that looked hilarious especially with the wheel trims .each to their own but putting alloys on a fiesta poplar doesnt make it an xr2 and a sierra 1.8 gl with a spoiler isnt a cosworth ,bloody ell why cant people just buy a car and have it as that car.some mods are tastefull and some make me howl with laughter at how daft they look
