Some Pug 406 issues
« on: 24 May 2011, 23:34:27 »

Hi All,
I recently bought a Pug 406 HDI estate as a short term workhorse and the intention was just use, abuse and get rid of it!!  ;D However despite my best intentions, it has a few issues and I know I'll end up tinkering..... So I thought I run these issues past you guys and gals... :y

1) A warning message 'Low brake fluid' comes up on the screen, however the brake fluid bottle is full and the brakes are good! Dodgey sensor?
2) The clutch biting point is high. Can it be adjusted?
3) I took the engine cover off, and it looks like the rocker cover is leaking. Is this a breather issue like the Migs?
4) At low speeds ie in traffic, it dosn't run smoothly. It's only just noticable, but the power fades slightly for an instant, before coming back.....

Thanks in advance as always for any advice!  :y :y :y

1. Probably.
2. From memory, no.
3. Unlikely, but no harm in making sure everything is clear and replacing the gasket.
4. Change the filters (oil, fuel, and air).

Just thought I'd be cheeky and butt in here, because we're currently breaking a 406 2.0 HDi due to valve damage, and not being cost effective to repair/MOT. Any bits you need let us know!  :y

Had a petrol 1.8 from nearly new for 7 years - cracking car, one of the best I've ever owned. The symptoms you describe also occurred on mine, and although the revs did still dip off slightly when braking to a halt before recovering, it was markedly improved after changing all the filters as highlighted.

Thanks for the replies!  :y

Its great for my needs at the moment cheap(ish) to run, masses of room in the back with the seats down and pretty comfortable  :)

Still, it's nice to get back in the Mig now and again!  :y

I've been tinkering with The Pug today, and I think The Mig is a bit jealous  ::) ::)

Anyway, I've spotted something that looks abit like a small flying saucer behind the rocker cover on the drivers side and it looks like there's a vac pipe missing... :-/ and I can't see where it might go to....  :(  Any ideas anyone? Thanks in advance  :y :y :y

It's a 90.  I'll have a go at a picture, but didn't have much luck with the photobucket thing last time I tried!  :-[

That's looking down the back of the engine from the nearside. You can see the flying saucer thing with a nozzle. It looks as though there should be a vac pipe attached? Can't see where it might go though!

Sorry about the size of the pic, I thought I'd resized it!  :-[

I've found the Pugeot 406 equivilant to OOF, for those here with a 406.  Its very similar to OOF, with lots of good advice and all the common issues featured.  :y

Sorry for the late reply TH,I had forgotten about this.Looking from the front of the car the pipe from that outlet goes to the right hand solenoid vac valve(there are two on mine) that is mounted on the bulkhead behind it ,Don't forget mine is a 110 so may differ from yours.
